If JZ1276 has simply chosen "No Returns" that would have been the end of it, and the buyer would have had to suck it up. If you don't alter any of the options, I believe the default return policy is 14 days, buyer pays return shipping, no restocking fee, which is why you were forced to accept the return.
But then the asshat gets to rape you in the feedback area and put a negative mark against your account and you cannot respond at all on his feedback to warn others. Their feedback system really has some faults to it.

Re: Advice on an ebay sale please?

So this situation screwed me up pretty bad. When the buyer filed a return case, Paypal immediately deducted the item price ($85) from my Paypal account which brought it to $-85. When the item was returned to me, ebay sent me a messsge saying to issue the refund, which I did, & the funds were then taken out of my bank account. On the same day, my ebay seller fees were due, so I went onto Paypal to pay them. Next day, I received emails from my bank saying I was overdrawn which I didn't see how because I had just enough to cover ebay seller fees, the refund for the pants & a couple of other bills I had just paid. I logged onto my bank account and noticed that even though the money for the refund was taken out, there was also a second charge from Paypal combining the ebay seller fees & the $85 for the pants refund. So, it was taken out of my bank account 2x. To make matters worse, I was hit with 3 $35 overdraft fees. First thing I did was call Paypal. I was transferred numerous times & had to explain this situation 3 times & ended up on the phone for a total of around an hour. Then I called my bank & was also transferred 2 or 3 times & had to beg & plead for them to drop the $105 in OD fees & spent around 45 minutes talking to them. Because my Paypal account was negative $85, the money was automatically taken from my bank account when I used Paypal to pay my ebay seller fees. It's all cleared up now but what a fkn nightmare.

Isolated instances of negative feedback aren't that big a deal. And negative feedback no longer counts as a strike against your seller account. You can always respond to feedback. It's just a little hard to find. You have to find the link in the community section for the Feedback Forum.

eBay also blocks negative feedback in a few cases where the seller prevails in a dispute over the buyer.
