This article appeared in the recent Video Business magazine concerning Amazon and their prices changes.

Amazon tests prices

Amazon.com's DVD store has been testing separate price points on the same product on the site. Shoppers looking to purchase the limited edition version of Columbia TriStar Home Video's Men in Black, for example, could have been offered $23.97, $25.97 or $27.97, according to reports. Suggested retail price on the title is $39.99. A spokeswoman for the company said the test, which has concluded, was "a random test" not linked to the purchase history of individual customers. "Price is just one of the factors Amazon tests to decide what factors impact a customer's decision to purchase something," she said, citing page layout and the features included on specific pages as other aspects that are tested on an ongoing basis.
