When did DVD talk publish the Store Ratings? I'm sure that it has been several months. Perhaps we ought to have a vote.

In the tradition of Survivor, let's have a Tribal Council and "vote" a store off the island, and why.

My vote: buy.com - Bad reputation that makes me wary of ordering from them.

Amazon for changing prices depending on whether or not you've shopped with them and changing their privacy policy so they can sell your information to the highest bidder.

What, are you ****ing kidding me?

Buy.com always has decent coupons and they ship their orders early (people already recieved their American Psycho on Friday, while I just got my Amazon shipping notice Monday).
Amazon.com has good prices and the GCs are easy to get. Dynamic price adjustments are going to become more and more common (and are already present in some stores). Plus we DVD Talkers know how to get the lowest price available, what are you bitching about?

I agree with Buy and Amazon. Horrible customer service from Buy and in recent light of these events at Amazon unless they rectify the situation.

Good prices? 15-20% on catalog titles is good? And I am bitching about the fact that they now feel it is ok to sell the information you gave them when you made your purchase to other companies. If you feel that this is bitching go right ahead and continue to shop with them.

Ding - Just because some people here at DVDTalk know how to get around with their scams and get an occasional free/cheap disc doesn't give them the right to screw the majority of online customers... and I'm talkin bout amazon here.

I won't say much bout buy.com but they probably have one of the worst online systems out there + some of the most incompetent csr-people around...

Amazon.com is that sneaky bastard Richard that people hate, yet like sometimes. It's clever, without being very subtle about it!

Therefore, it shall win

For the people that actually pay list price, buy.com is the only game in town. Consistently has the lowest prices and is pretty much the only online retailer that still has coupons. Plus it's even money you'll get your discs the Friday or Saturday before the release date, and you have a not insignificant chance of getting it a week before or more.

Amazon.com has had pitiful list prices for awhile, but abundance of GCs and fantastic customer service keep people coming back for more.

So I ask this: if these two retailers were gone, where the hell are people going to go? Bigstar? CDUniverse? CDNow? Express? B&Ms?

Me, I'm happy buy.com and Amazon are still around and they will continue to get the money of whomever is funding my GCs.

From: You have moved into a dark place. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
Amazon.com may have higher prices now, but they *are* reliable and their customer service is top notch. When I order from Amazon, I don't have to worry about IF I'll get my stuff - I know it'll come - I just may have to wait a few extra days for it.

Buy.com - I don't know. I've only ever used them for pre-orders and I *heart* them. I've never had to return anything, though, so I don't know anything about their customer service.

Right now, I'd boot off DVDUniverse (formerly the also-bootable DVD Wave) or maybe DVD Jam.

DVD Empire - although I'll never use them for pre-orders again (which is how I make most of my purchases) unless I really have to, I'll probably still order catalogue titles that I'm willing to wait an extra week to arrive. Their customer service is top notch, and while I may gripe about how long it takes for them to deliver, I'm pleased that they seem to take the DVDphile's needs to heart (as evidenced by Steven N's postings on this BB).

I think Express.com is still my online store of choice - their service is great, their prices are okay, and they ship FAST.

Express ships FAST ?

You must live next door to them.

I received Braveheart on 8/31 2 daqys after the release date.

I'm cancelling all of my pre-orders with them right now.

From my perspective, you could boot them all for one reason or another - for seriously bad service (Buy.com) to ridiculous prices (BN, BigStar) to no coupons, and therefore no deals (Express, Checkout), to lowdown, sneaky, deceptive pricing schemes (Amazon). And this is not even mentioning those totally, totally f*cked places like CDUniverse. Everyone of the sites where you are getting a "deal" will eventually screw you in one way or another. I have been disappointed so many times with these places BUT after 16 months I also have a 200 DVD collection at under $6 a pop. The only site that consistently provided me straight up excellent deals and service was Reel and we see what happened to them - they made no money.

So the question for me is who is going to screw me the least for a good deal and then I try to avoid the rest. If I never hear the word Buy.com again it will be too soon, but guess what - if the deal is really good, I'll probably try them again. And despite this despicable pricing scheme I'll stick with Amazon because they have good service, the coupons are abundant and I always get what I order.

The only place I will always avoid no matter what the deal is CDUniverse, the hellhole of DVD sites.

You received Braveheart two days after release day - but when was it shipped? Express isn't responsible for the actions of the USPS. Unless a shipping date is included, complaints about delivery dates must be viewed with at least some suspicion.

I agree, I miss Reel. If they F'd up, they gave me a GC and usually credited me for their screw up.

CD Universe - it would have been dvdwave if they were still around but since CDU absorbed dvdwave, it makes it all the easier to vote CDU off.

Buy.com has always been my favorite but they are trying my patience now since they haven't shipped my Boogie Nights preorder yet.

Amazon isn't screwing the majority of people out there. Some get the good cookie, some get the bad. Luck of the draw. And 15%-20% off list is still 15%-20% off list. Also their pre-orders can be priced as low as 40% off. Coupled with a GC, I consider Amazon the best deal around now.

Buy.com has been pretty good, IME, but come to think of it, they still haven't shipped my Braveheart...

Reel may have been first voted off, but they always did right by me --- even insuring that I'd (eventually) get everything I had ordered from them...

not their fault that buy.com couldn't handle the orders...

And Reel is still trying to do right by people. For people still having trouble getting their transferred orders from Buy.com contact customer service at Reel. Almost two months after I transferred two of my Reel orders to Buy, they cancelled them. I called Reel about one of those orders and they had Amazon ship it to my door within two days. On the second one they sent me a $25.00 Buy coupon even though I had paid only $17 in store credit and a GC.

DVDEmpire didn't ship on THE RELEASE date, says ON ORDER. This means it will either be shipping tomarrow or later. I will probally not see my dvds till next week! This is very lame, I thought it was nice for Steve to read the boards but it doesn't mean jack about thier bussiness. Maybe I'm contradicting their service but they could've at least shipped it today! I will delete this if they indeed do ship today the 5th but i seriously doubt it.

MPEG, your UN here must be different than with us...I tried to look up your order under MPEG to no avail. Let me know what you ordered so that I can investigate.

Thanks

I would disagree with placing Buy.com on this list....I would list:

CDUNIVERSE
CDNOW
AMAZON
EXPRESS
DVDJAM
