It's called, "Buy it somewhere else." Amazon obviously has old inventory it purchased at a higher price, and they are very willing to stick it to you for the old price via surcharge. I am alone out here when I say that I think Amazon has one of the shadiest operations I have ever seen.

This was a reply when I asked them this 'special surcharge':
Thanks for contacting us at Amazon.com with your concern.
This item is not only a special-order item, but it appears to be a rare
one. The surcharge on it reflects our suppliers' choices, due to its rare
availability, and does not represent any charges Amazon.com collects for
shipment. Those costs are in addition to this surcharge.
If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to search
the Help pages on our site, or ask us if you need any clarification.
Thanks for shopping at Amazon.com.

Hmm..... how about that?

As I suspected, Bordello of Blood is an Image entertainment release. A whole bunch of their titles are going down in price in september. Most sites have prematurely lowered their prices already There's a thread out there listing all of the titles, but you should check out Amazon's listing of Slaughterhouse Five which also has that special surcharge. The Andromeda Strain does not have this surcharge though. dvdexpress and dvdempire both have this at the lower MSRP and without any surcharges. My advice: wait for amazon to get rid of the surcharge (old stock bought at the higher price I guess) or buy elsewhere.

I noticed this while researching the Chinese Ghost Story re-releases due 9/12 to see if there were any changes from the original Tai Seng releases. The specs mentioned they were Image releases, but the Image-entertainment.com site mentions a number of Tai Seng reprices in August from $49.99 to $29.99 MSRP. When I looked at a couple of these HK films, i saw the lower price AND the SURCHARGE and said WTF??? Many other on-line stores have the reduced prices. You'd think the giant Cramazon would be able to cut a deal with the manufacturer in these cases, but no, let's pay an extra $10.50 cuz prices are going down?
Amazon also has a book i want - it lists for $39.99 EVERYWHERE but Cramazon has it ON SALE for $47. Even tho I buy only with Jaboom GC's, I do soend my precious time earning them and my time is valuable!
B&M's are fighting back and looking better. Best Buy in Marin city CA had "Any Given Sunday" on Monday for $19.99.

Different stores handle price-changes in different ways. I don't know if they still do it, but 800.com used to actually take the item off sale, post it as a 'pre-order' and not ship it until the price actually changed.
I'm not sure what all the bitching is about. My God, Amazon is making you pay full price for an item which has not yet had it's price reduced!!
At least Amazon let's you order it now before the price-change takes effect if you want to pay the current price.
How many stores advertise a sale price before the sale starts and actually let you buy the item at that sale price? Almost none. They let you come in that day and pay full price or come back when the sale takes effect and pay the lower price.
