I had just discovered that DVD Empire, without informing me, had changed the price on an item in my order. Like many of us, I ordered the Classic Monster Collectio DVD Set at $71.95 a couple of weeks ago. Well, when I was checking the online status of my order, I was unpleasantly surprised to see that they changed the price on that item in my order to a whopping $143.95. Did anyone else experience the same problem. I emailed them but haven't received a response yet.
If they want to be a credible online etailer, they better not pull such stunts.

Mine‘s changed also, but the weird thing is the subtotal is still the same as when I originally ordered. If they try and charge me the "new" price, I have the printouts and I’ll immediately query it with my CC compnay.

I just sent them an email asking for an explaination. I'll let everyone know what (if anything) they say about it. As it stands now though it looks like the quest for a "Reel" replacement continues

I received a similar price-hike, with no email notification/authorisation.
In Australia, such a transaction is illegal, and I suspect that I could keep the shipped goods AND have the TOTAL amount reversed....
Hmmm... Maybe I won't cancel after all....

This isn't legal in the US either -- you can't charge a persons credit card more than the agreed upon amount (which is what is shown when you click PLACE ORDER and receive your confirmation).
There can't be very many people at DVDEmpire with brains if they are stupid enough to raise the prices on already-placed orders by $70. Most people are nervous enough giving out CC details over the internet. To have a company purposefully raise an order total (especially by such a huge amount) will just scare people off or cause them to shop elsewhere. Idiots.

Geez, guys--
Just ignore it. Let them send it to you. If they charge more than your confirmation, dispute the charge with your CC company and send in a hard copy of the confirmation with your dispute. What is wrong with you guys that you feel you have to alert them that something is illegal, so that they can cancel all of our orders instead?

I think I'll just cancel all my orders with them. Changing the price without notifying the customer is a bad business practice.
Of course I'll cancel one week before the item is schedule to ship so the are left with extra stock.
They did leave a way out for themselves.
From the DVDEmpire help page:
"The Price and/or Release Date of pre-ordered titles are subject to change, due to internal errors or studio changes, without notice. The movie studios change this information on a regular basis. DVD Empire keeps this information as current as possible, however, we make no guarantees about its accuracy. "

DVDEmpire's customer service dept. was very friendly. If you ordered the Classic Monster Collection at the original price, I would call them, as they're taking down order numbers and phone numbers of those who got in before they closed the deal.

The rep was very nice and told me that they will honor the original price. Good luck.

Just called and they said they were in Litigation with Universal. They said they will only be charging the original price. Very nice customer service (miles above hifi.com). Now I'm glad I ordered this set.

ok .. did my call too, very sweet lady (erica) on the phone ... new immediately what i was talking about ... i tried to get a number out of her as to how many of these cheapo orders they got ... but she just said "a few" ...
I like that they absolutely commit to honoring the price, instead of saying "well, we have to wait how the talks with the studio going ... and you can cancel anyway anytime" ...

I just spoke with the same gal. It was interesting that she was not aware of the 71.95 price. I guess it was increased at some point later to 80 something. Since I didn't have a hardcopy, I had to forward her my email confirmation.
However, she ensured me they would honor the original price.

Kudo's to DvdEmpire! I just spoke with Erica as well (I get the feeling she is the Customer Support Dept) she gave me the same schpiel everyone else has been reporting. She was very professional, courteous, and went out of her way to say:
A. It wasn't their fault.
B. They would definately honor the lower price.
Good enough for me!
