I just signed up for the one month trial of Prime earlier today. Am I reading it correctly that if I pre-order an item (i.e. The Dark Knight Rises) and select the free two-day shipping, then it will arrive the day it is released on 12/4?

Generally speaking that is true, but not a sure thing, at least based on my experience

You would think that pre-ordering an item would guarantee delivery on the release date, but it's not always the case. They're very hit-or-miss in my experiences with this.

Note that pre-ordering a popular title like The Dark Knight would theoretically get you in the queue behind a lot of people who have already pre-ordered it. But that's hit and miss too.

Ah ok. Well hopefully being on Amazon Prime helps. It still says the delivery estimate is 12/4, so fingers crossed.

Don't always count on it being delivered the day it is released. Prime member and preordered Finding Nemo blu ray ages ago. Yeah, it's not here yet and probably won't get here tonight, unless they deliver after 6pm. It's Ontrac. Amazon said they have it, Ontrac said they don't have it. I don't care as it is a Christmas gift for the kids, but don't always count on release day delivery.
