Do Netflix DVDs have all the extras of store bought?

It seems that most of the Netflix DVDs I get these days are barebones.

Are these the same DVDs of movies they are selling in stores?

Or do the studios make different DVDs for Netflix?

Warner Bros., Universal, Fox, and Disney (I think?) have been pressing feature-only rental discs for Netflix and Redbox for probably the last year or so.

I may have forgotten some of the other distributors, but I'm pretty sure Toy Story 3 was stripped of extras when I rented it from Redbox.

Just had a Redbox movie yesterday that had "rental" stamped on the front.

Yep, a lot of rental discs are devoid of the extras now. Usually just a few preview trailers and that's it. You gotta buy those if you want the extras.

Some of those are recycled for the Blu-ray Combo packs as well (DVD with no Extras).

Yeah, but aside from Criterion's and a small handful of other titles, pretty much all extras these days are boring and redundant.

Seems like even commentaries aren't on Netflix.

I wonder if Social Network, for example, has Fincher commentary on Netflix.

/\ It probably will. Sony is one the distributors who have not been pressing rental-only discs.

I had a Redbox movie yesterday that said "redbox" instead of "rental" which I thought was strange... Do they actually press separate dvds for Redbox instead of generic RENTAL discs?

Some of the movies I get from Netflix are stamped with "Netflix". I can't recall if they were movie only, as I rarely watch the extra features on Netflix rentals.

That is my thought, if it is a movie I really like, I will go buy it. I use Netflix for movies I am not so sure about/do not care for more in depth knowledge of.

Re: Do Netflix DVDs have all the extras of store bought?

I received The Town (Warner Bros.) from Netflix yesterday. It had the Netflix logo printed on the disc in the same silver/grey ink that The Town's logo was printed. I would have taken a picture of the disc but I already put it in the mail. The disc itself had forced previews and no extras other than the hearing impaired subtitles.

This was the first time I noticed a Netflix logo on a disc, I thought it was strange at the time. I wonder if they do this to prevent people from swapping discs out for whatever reason... why someone would want to switch out a disc for a beat up rental disc is beyond me.

Absolutely loved The Town btw, plenty of rewatchability IMHO... I guess this is a close as we will get to a decent Michael Mann-esque heist flick. I haven't seen many Ben Affleck movies but I thought he gave a pretty solid performance considering he has a suspect acting career. And I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by his directing abilities. I look forward to more from him.

Now back to your regularly scheduled thread...

I just got Death Race 2 this week and the DVD has the extras menu and list of all the extras, but once you click on any of them, it give a text screen page that says this DVD is feature film only.
