Suncoast!!

So, I was shocked to run across a Suncoast video in the Asheville mall in Asheville, NC. I went up for the fye sale, and sorry I couldn't get a psot up, but I found out on the last day. The deal was, buy two used Blurays or DVDs, get the 3rd one free. Same deal at Suncoast. But, wow, it blew my socks off when I saw the Suncoast. It was like stepping into 1989. It's awesome, tv sets, special collector's set, steelbooks. Heaven. Anyway, it's too late for that sale. But, starting Thursday fye and Suncoast are having buy 2 used, get one half off, I believe. Also, Suncoast dropped the prices on alot of their figures. Star Trek, Boondock Saints, Funko bobbleheads. All for 2.47. Incredible. I asked the kind clerk at Suncoast and she said there were only around 30 stores left in the country. So, if you live within striking distance of the Asheville mall, check it out!

Re: Suncoast!!

The Suncoast in east Texas had $2.47 figures also so this might be nation-wide.

I miss Suncoast. Their prices were insane but they always seemed to have the titles I couldn't find anywhere else.

Me too. They always had a wide selection, if not the best prices.

Did you get any footage, KrazyJason? I've been digging your videos!

This is true, but the reason why the Suncoast business model doesn't work anymore is because you can find all those less mainstream titles online for reasonable prices now.

I used to love Suncoast, but the problem is that they didn't update their business model (or the model's of any of their chain stores). I don't see Transworld, their parent company, lasting more than 1 year.

Loved Suncoast. I would use it as a walk in catalog, see what I wanted then order cheaper online. Though I would buy toys, and budget Asian films.

Re: Suncoast!!

I worked at a Suncoast years ago... one of the more fun jobs I've had, but the prices were always shit. I was bummed they closed because that's where I bought my storage units. Now I have to get them off Amazon for double the price after shipping.

Come to think of it, that's where I got my shelving too.

They were always good for storage, posters, figures, and the like. Another thing they had, at least the store near me, was a decent widescreen section. For those of us that had a VHS collection, they were really the only chain place that I found, that stocked a decent number of widescreen movies.

Yea. Plus there's more places to go to. I have a Zia Records a couple miles away. And they carry pretty-much any title I could want. If they don't have it at their store, they network with their few stores around Phoenix and get it there in a day or two.

Or, there's always Amazon, which has E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G.

Yup I remember buying Die Hard Widescreen on VHS for $20 in 1997.

That's really true. Sure, they were my go to place for more obscure films before I started shopping online, but the thing I really loved about them was all their film related merch. I'd go in and more often then not walk out with a poster and some shirts or figures or something.

Although I do miss browsing their huge Horror section. That's how I found a lot of great films I would not have found any other way.

Expensive as they were, I could always find something that I wanted to buy there.

Re: Suncoast!!

I was actually there a couple of months ago with my family and before we went I checked the website to see if there were any stores I wanted to go to and saw Suncoast listed. I called them to make sure they were still there and that the store list wasn't outdated.

Re: Suncoast!!

I'm jealous! I didn't shop there a lot but I always liked to go in and browse. Lots of cool toys and rarities - and when they went on clearance you could get some great deals. Amazon.com is cheaper and has a pretty much endless selection but I miss browsing at brick and mortar music and video stores.

Re: Suncoast!!

/\ I would say that you could look at their store locator, but when I did that for my area it came up with a few locations that I know for a fact are closed.

/\ This is the best I could find, although it is affiliated with the company at all, so it is admittedly not the best resource.

Yes. Yes, they do. I cleaned up in '89. I still treasure my Gleaming The Cube limited edition VHS steelbook.
