Exactly the opposite for me: no signature has ever been required, even on the two pricey Beatles' box sets I received.

I do not need/want to sign for any packages. I live in a gated community populated by (mostly) high-income retirees. I have no fears for the $20 Blu-ray left inside my screen door.

Then again, I wouldn't live in a gated community. Elitist is a description that springs to mind (and that is also a "polite" term I'd use, though there are others). And those gates will never keep out the "riff-raff" should things take a depression-like turn in this country. In fact, your type of neighborhood would be the first one I'd ransack, were it to come to that.
