Man I Really Hate Hastings!

Hastings used to be my favorite store. I have spent hundreds of dollars there gobbling up music, videos and magazines. Their video and music section alone are much better than Best Buy or Target.

Yet, my Hastings love affair is long gone. This started two years ago when they jacked up the prices on their used dvd boxsets. The prices are outrageous. Last time I checked, used seasons of Star Trek TNG were going for $73 bucks.

Well, last weekend, they ran a special sale, “BUY 1 GET 1 for $1 on ALL USED DVDS”. Finally a sale where I can get a decent deal on used boxsets. I grabbed Firefly and Bones season 1. They wanted $28.99 for both seasons used. LOL. I can buy these cheaper brand spanking new elsewhere! But with the sale, it wasn’t a bad deal.

Unfortunately, the clerk tells me that the sale doesn’t include boxsets. It only includes their rental television discs in the ugly clamshells. I told the guy that the sign clearly stated all used, and he just shook his head. I walked out. I never had a problem getting used boxsets as part of their sales, but looks like Hastings is cracking down. 

I agree that they have really high prices on their used box sets. You can find better prices at www.secondspin.com It's even better when they have a sale. I have bought many DVDs/CDs there and they were like new.
By the way, when you were at Hastings did you talk to a manager?

Crap like that happens. There was a time when you could snag three box sets at Blockbuster for $25.00. Back in the day when they allowed DVDs to be traded in and they gave decent money for them, people traded in box sets all the time. I got Toy Story Ultimate Toy Box, the Die Hard box set, and Quantum Leap season one all for $25.00 and sold the Toy Story set on Ebay for like $90.00.

It wasn't too soon after that that Blockbuster put a price cap on the used DVDs you could get in their specials. Now it's nothing over $14.99.

Sometimes just because the computer allows it doesn't mean that's what the store wanted customers to do, so they fix the glitch. It sounds like Hastings fixed the glitch. Granted, their sign didn't say they were excluded, but on the flip side they didn't say they were included either.

One more note, I don't really find the used DVD market to be all that viable anymore. These days you can easily find just about any DVD brand new for about the same price or less than you can find them used if you shop around.
