Amazon doesn't do exchanges anymore?
I want to exchange a defective DVD I got from them, but I see this notice on their return form now:
NOTE: We don't offer an exchange program at this time. However, you're welcome to return the item for a refund and then place a new order for the item you want in exchange.
Well if I place a new order for the item, then I will be paying full price, when I had originally ordered the item using a 30% Bill Me Later discount that I had. When did they discontinue exchanges? I've exchanged items with them before no problem.

I just got a couple of defective items last week and I noticed the very same thing. Instead of using their "Return Item" section, I used the "Contact Us" section. It requires you to log in and it brings up a page that allows you to pick the order and item in question and you can either send an email or have them call you back. I opted for the email, explained my situation, and in less than 12 hours I got a response indicating that a replacement would be sent free of charge as well as a link to print up an RMA & paid mailing label to return the defective item.

Isn't that kind of illegal? I know they are an online retail site but I know there are laws in which retailers have to offer a minimum 15 day return/exchange window for a purchased item..

They are not stopping returns. They have the same liberal policy as ever. You return stuff and you get all your money back. They look like they are trying to curtail the exchanges a bit. It is still possible, you just have to work a bit more for it.

But is not the same. The OP wants the same article. Amazon is supposed to exchange it without any charges whatsoever. What they are trying to do is making the customer pay more for returning a defective item they sold.

I see what you are saying, but I find it hard to believe that Amazon would do this. My guess is a simple call to CS would clear the matter up.

I just exchanged a TV DVD set that was missing a disc...no issue for me. Printed out a return label, sent it back, and the replacement was already on its way to me(which I got 2 days after I asked to exchange)

I would definitely give them the benefit of the doubt. A couple days after Xmas I called them up to exchange a Gator Golf kids game that wasn't working right. I bought it back in September and they had no problem exchanging it since it was a gift.
