Random Amazon question about taxes...

So I ordered that new Justice League Blu Ray. Apparently it shipped from within my state. I didn't know Amazon had a warehouse here in town. I thought if a company had a physical presence in a state, you got charged taxes. Does Amazon not do that?

Typically they do assess the sales tax if they have a distribution center in the same state as the orderee, like in California and Kansas. I was sort of glad when Amazon pulled up stakes in their Georgia distribution center a few years ago, saved a bit on the sales taxes.

I have placed two orders for Dvd's in 2008 and they shipped from Phoenix and they both took around two weeks to be delivered. They used to ship from Maryland, I think, and I would get delivery on the second or third day. Thats using the Free Shipping option.

Also, when doing the tracking both pacakages had something like "Carrier notified to Pick up Package" or something to that tune for most of the time until a day or two before it was delivered.

Same for me. PHX looks to be their new main hub.

Interesting. This is the first item in about 100 that's come from here. That doesn't bode well for me if they start charging taxes.

From Amazon:

"Items sold by Amazon.com LLC, or its subsidiaries, and shipped to destinations in the states of Kansas, Kentucky, North Dakota, or Washington are subject to tax."

They definitely ship from more than those locations. Strange they don't charge tax in other states where they are located.
