Hit up the store in Vails Gate, NY twice. Picked up the following for an average of less than $5 per DVD.

Small Time Crooks
Doctor Strange
Curse of the Golden Flower
The Mask of Zorro
I Know What You Did Last Summer
Volver
L'Enfant (The Child)
Wild Things
An American Werewolf in Paris
Sgt. Bilko
Awesome; I...Shot That
Lost in America
Alien Apocalypse
Toys
The Curse of the Jade Scorpion
Anything Else
Hollywood Ending
Notes on a Scandal
Cradle Will Rock
The Good German
Bullets Over Broadway
A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints
Fast Food Nation
13 Tzameti
National Lampoon's Van Wilder: The Rise of Taj
White Noise
The Tao of Steve
Catwoman
Ernest Scared Stupid
Grandma's Boy
Relative Strangers
The Grifters
Dead Man on Campus
Encino Man
Last Days

Now I probably won't buy anything else until Black Friday or the DD 20% off sale, whichever one comes first.

Has anyone else faced ungodly lines at these places? I was at the one in Glendale Heights mentioned earlier (I think) the other day and had maybe 15 movies in my pile (though the only ones I really cared about were Lives of Others, Slither, the original Wicker Man, and maybe 24 Hour Party People), but I had to leave after waiting in line for about 40 minutes and watching only TWO or THREE people get checked out.

Of course, that everyone had like 50 movies plus candy was a big cause (having to open all the DVD cases, ect.). But they also had to scan the 90% coupon they were using once for EVERY item. Scanning took maybe 3-5 seconds each time, and most people had well over 50 items.

I missed some good deals (everything was 90% off, meaning I'd have paid less that $1.50 for everything I was interested in; most were $1 or less), but the wait was really ridiculous.

We went on Sunday afternoon, and it was pretty dead (and picked over). Checkout was pretty quick, and I overheard one of the girls mention the Lombard store is closing also (near my work), they're only at 40%-70% off though

Sideways
The Grudge2 Unrated
Idiocracy
Richard III
Pre tax, 18.38, about 4.60 a piece

They have a lot of titles left, but the discount isn't as much yet.

My store is "50-70% off" which basically means 5.99 for new release wall, 2.99 for catalog titles.

There a couple new release exceptions (Nacho Libre, Poseidon, World Trade Center, United 93, and some others) for $3 since they have a LOT of each.

The store is still very, very full.

I picked up that one too. A couple of my favorites are Seeking Asylum and Monster with Roberto Benigni, and I also found Cronenberg's Shivers and In The Realm Of Passion and In The Realm Of The Senses.

I bought about 200 DVDs, I sold about 50 and I've kept the rest, and the ones I've sold made more than enough to cover my cash output.

I spent about 45 minutes in one and only walked out w/ four dvds. The ONLY reason I spent that much time in there was to try to find 4 movies without stickers all over the actual artwork. I got:

Naked mile
scary movie 3
scary movie 4
elvis the miniseries

all for $3.99 each

Most of the movies they have for sale are not really deals. $3.99 for movies that are scratched and have stickers all over isn't really that great, which sucks because I found a few decent ones, but I could find them about a dollar more brand new. I have been finding good movies for $2.98 at hpb lately and they are pretty much mint condition. (note: i do not work at hpb, just saying)

I found Reptilicus and I Bury The Living at the one closing in Ann Arbor. $4 for each wasn't a bad deal, but there wasn't much to be had there.

Any chance you'll reveal this spot hmmmmmmm ? I guess it may be closed by now anyway, but I understand your reluctance if not. I've been to the Richardson Belt Line Road and Plano Custer/Parker locations.

I stopped by the Richardson location about a week back. DVDs were 50-60% off and there was still quite a bit of stock left with a few more boxes of DVDs waiting to be shelved according to the cashier. I picked up:

Saraband - $2.40
Wassup Rockers - $2.40
Black Caesar - $4
Black Mama White Mama - $4
The Fall of the House of Usher - $4
Fay Grim - $4
In This World - $4
Love Liza - $4
The Notorious Bettie Page - $4
September 11 - $4

None had inserts and the conditions varied from acceptable to spotless. I asked the cashier how much longer he thought they'd stay open and he said likely until late November or whenever they sell everything, whichever happened first.

I stopped by the Plano location two days ago. DVDs were between 60-70% off with the few remaining unopened titles at 50%. All the used DVDs $9.99 and under were 70% off. I picked up:

Casa de los Babys - $1.80
For Your Consideration - $1.80
R' Xmas - $1.80
Coffy - $3
The King - $3 (with insert)
Kiss Me Deadly - $3
Rabid - $3
The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada - $3
L'Atalante - $6 (came with insert and spotless)

Disc conditions were very good to spotless. I overheard the cashier say they were closing in a couple weeks. Stock was over halfway gone.

90% off everything at the White Oak store in Cincinnati. All area stores will be closed by 11/5 at the latest. The Covedale store is already closed. I picked up the following for $12.06 (including tax):

- Good Night, And Good Luck.
- Thank You For Smoking
- Millennium Mambo
- The Madness Of King George
- Primer
- 2046
- Tristram Shandy: A Cock & Bull Story
- He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not
- Casa De Los Babys
- The Edukators
- Incident At Loch Ness
- The Road Home

All of their discs were pre-viewed/rentals except for several new, sealed copies of the Kino release of Buster Keaton's Seven Chances. I may go back for that, since it shouldn't come in higher than $1.50. I might as well pick up the single-disc United 93 for $0.80, too. My OOP two-disc edition was stolen several months ago.

This location was in Balch Springs, it was a good 20 minutes from my house but well worth the drive. The Richardson and Plano locations will be closing next weekend. I went by the Richardson one yesterday and the prices haven't changed in a week, but by wednesday or thursday it should be dropping.

What a difference a day makes.

The White Oak store now has everything at 2/$1.00, which is pretty much the nail in the coffin. All of the United 93 discs were gone by the time I got there, but I did manage to pick up A League Of Ordinary Gentlemen, Doppelganger (the Asian film, not the Drew Barrymore softcore horror), and two sealed copies of the Kino Seven Chances I mentioned above. $2.12 out the door.

Last night, my store was at:

$4.49 for new release walls
$2.99 for catalog titles

The store is still 90% full. They need to start dropping prices faster.

Last night I discovered that Hollywood Video is moving DVDs from local stores that have already closed to other branches that will soon be closing.

I went to the Cincinnati Beechmont store last night to see what they had to offer and I heard a customer ask the clerk, "Hey, aren't there more movies here than when I was here last time?". The clerk said yes and told him that remaining stock from two other Cincinnati stores had been sent to their location.

So, this means that the store you've already checked may now have movies that weren't there the last time you checked.

Guess it's time to "reshop"!

RUSTYORGAN: You struck gold with Mr. Hulots Holiday, Last Temptation of Christ, Walkabout, Amaracord and all those other Criterions.

ZOMBEANER: You too struck gold with those Criterions. Who cares about inserts - it's the movies we watch. Good job!

SPEZ: You struck gold with Dr. Strange, Golden Flower, L'Enfant, Notes on a Scandel, Fast Food Nation..

PRINTERATI: Wow, you really struck gold with Good Night Good Luck, Thank you for Smoking, Primer, He Loves Me, The Road Home. You could have easily paid 12 bucks for just one of those.

CASEJONZ: you are the champion! Why the hell in the world were they selling The Holy Mountain and El Topo for 4 dollars each? What idiots! You literally ripped off that store. Great job! Just to show that the people working there just have no clue! You get a round of applause. Also you struck gold with your Criterion pick-ups, Beauty and the Beast, East/West, Gozu, Scanner Darkly, Hard Rain,
