Deep Discount Price Jumps?

When I viewed my wishlist after 2 weeks of 'technical' problems with their site my jaw hit the ground.

Almost everything I had in my wishlist (DVDs, Books, CDs) increased in price pretty dramatically.

Not only did most of the prices increase, but most of my items now indicate out of stock.

Usually we see a bit of a price bump just previous to the big 20% off sale but that is usually in Novemeber (Yes Deep Discount - We are on to you).

I LOVE DDD, but after their recent debacle with wishlists (and now this) I don't know if I will remain a regular customer.

Has anyone else noticed significant price jumps?

Just checked my wishlist, and it looks like a lot of things went up by about 10%; I'd guess about half of the things on my list fall into this category.

A few things are unchanged, and a few have gone up by about 20%.

Looks like all of the Anchor Bay discs went up. The Criterions are all over the place -- from $25.88 to $32.15, which isn't really unusual as DDD's Criterions are generally all over the place price-wise and tend to go up and down quite a bit.

It probably would be better to post 'which' items / titles you are referring too - rather than simple generalisations about price hikes.

I know of what DVD thats on my wishlist that went from 5.99 to 6.04 -nothing to really get too worried about.

There are times when prices will fall when there is a specific Studio sale - and then rise when the sale finishes.

Tell us which ones they are - and we'll watch them

****** It's a real PITY that DD no longer has the function to allow you to 'email' the wishlist anymore. It was easier to get the data of the email, rather than attempting to get it from the website itself. With over 180 items on my list - its geting hard to watch and track prices !!

Well, thats the thing....

With some of their customers Wishlists down for the last 2 weeks (including mine) I can't really remember exact details, but this has nothing to do with limited time sales.

Things that I had on here FOREVER suddenly shot up.

Off the top of my head I recall both of these were about 2 dollars cheaper.
SCTV - Disc 1
Inventory: In-Stock , Usually ships in 2-3 days $11.16
SCTV - Disc 2
Inventory: In-Stock , Usually ships in 2-3 days $11.16

Invaders From Mars

This was $5.99....
The Late Shift
Inventory: In-Stock , Usually ships in 2-3 days $7.27

This was about $7....
He-Man and She-Ra - A Christmas Special

I'd say they're having issues, as their back to school sale that says 200 titles as low as 5.98 has only like one at that price point, and when you sort them from price low to high, it's not even close to being accurately displayed, and the sale isn't suppose to end until 10/1 .. since it's the weekend and in the past issues sometimes will last there until the following week i'd say give it a time before you all have a nervous breakdown..

also what should be pointed out is which most of you probably do which you never realize is see stuff on sale, put in your wishlist/cart, then go back later on after the sale is over and all the stuff you wanted is no longer on sale, the price goes back up..

I agree they are having issues

BUT.....

It can't be 198 items coming 'off sale'. How can the prices on items you have in your wishlist for 8 months suddenly increase like that - they weren't on sale for 8 months!

I have noticed that the items that do go on/off sale do reflect correctly in your wishlist, for example "Frankenstein Conquers the World" was on sale for 12.88, then reverted back to $14 price when it came off.

Believe me, this is pretty widespread and i doubt it has anything to do with a sale.

I agree it's weird, but my opinion is that it's a widespread issue, and not something intentional, especially dealing with the sales that don't appear to be correct. I guess we'll have to see if it gets fixed or not.

Where did people get it into their heads that stores keep their prices the same all the time. Prices eventually fluctuate, deal with it.

Historically, DVDs tend to DECREASE in price....

Actually, I don't believe anyone here is advocating that prices should remain the same.

Historically, DVDs tend to DECREASE in price after their initial release dates.

After exclusively using this particular merchant for over 5 years I can anticipate the changes they routinely make.

Out side of temporary price reductions during sales and the inevtibale increase to pre-sale prices this increase in cost is without precident FOR THIS MERCHANT. Some of these changes , quite frankly, make no sense and there seems to be no rhyme or reason for these changes.

I have never seen an across the board increase like this at Deep Discount.

In light of their recent 'technical issues' one tends to wonder if the pricing is even correct.

Note my previous posts and the changes in prices OVER THE LAST 2 DAYS ALONE.

Prices do fluctuate, but has anyone seen them fluctuate daily?
My concern is that this information Deep Discount is providing is simply not accurate.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Wish List is being monitored and used for future sales and discounts. Many companies are figuring out this is a great tool.

I''ve experienced an overal 10% increase in the 152 titles on my wishlist - from $2604 to $2761.

I've been watching the majority of my wishlist titles for most of the year - and apart from the few specials / distributor deals. It pays to keep a spreadsheet - just for those twice a year 'sales'.

I have a few copies of my wishlist that I saved to my HD.

They are currently zipped up in an archive on a CD-R somewhere. I'll try to hunt one down and compare a bit later.

Okay... found a saved Wishlist of mine from early this year.

With very few expections, everything on my list increased. In some cases it was by a few pennies; in others it was by more than five dollars.

It was a bit tricky to compile, as I recently revamped by wishlist, so many of these things were either purchased by me between then and now (and thus off my list) so I had to check current prices as well as my order confirmation e-mails.

Some hard numbers (old price/new price):

HALLOWEEN 25TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION 17.99 19.91 (+1.92)
PRINCESS MONONOKE 16.64 18.26 (+1.62)
NOTLD MILLENNIUM ED 18.55 18.66 (+0.11)
TWILIGHT ZONE 1980S V1 51.19 51.58 (+0.39)
METROPOLIS 17.93 23.28 (+5.35)
ALL MGM TITLES @$9.58 9.58 10.65 (+1.07)
FILTH AND FURY 13.55 16.08 (+2.53)
JUDAS PRIEST ELECTRIC EYE 9.43 10.17 (+0.74)
LAMB OF GOD KILLADELPHIA 9.02 10.18 (+1.16)
ALL $9.28 TITLES FROM VARIUOS STUDIOS 9.28 11.17 (+1.89)
$12 ANCHOR BAY DISCS 12.00 13.00 (+1.00) [these vary in price, but all increased by about $1.00]

The CD prices on my wishlist remain more or less unchanged. (Maybe a few cents here or there... nothing worth quibbling about.)

It looks like a few prices are still fluctuating. Out of curiosity I checked a few titles that weren't on my wishlist, and I think the Serenity Collectors Edition jumped up to $21.29. (I don't recall what it was a earlier this week, but I'm fairly certain it wasn't that much.)

Guys... right now, go to DD and save a your wishlists to your hard drives (in your browser, go to FILE>SAVE PAGE AS) so we can monitor the price fluctuations. Like I said, it looks like prices are still moving around a bit.

It has been proven time and time and time again that there is no vast Deep Discount conspiracy to bump prices up before the sale. Items go up OR DOWN before the sale, and it has been reported that on many an occasion if an item goes up by a considerable amount that DD will lower it back to a more "normal" price as soon as someone brings it to their attention.

90% of wish list went up 10%

I noticed it last night, 90% of my DD wishlist titles went up 10%. DVDPRICESEARCH had not updated the revisions and still showed the previous price which was comparable with DVDPLANET. So I took $50 of DVD's off my DD wishlist and ordered from the Planet which gave me a 20% discount off DD's revised prices (with the 5%/$50 code). Sure, it could be a mistake, but it looked like a 10% hike to me (these were not sale items). So why wait for the sale? Maybe the 10% is to go back to boxes instead of envelopes (doesn't DD share the order fulfillment center with PLANET)?

This is exactly what I do, have a spreadsheet, to know if I am getting a deal, is it worth it or soem places may be pennies or reasonably close so it does not matter. I also factor in any coupons and potential sales (the unmentionable and BN's B2G1 June sale, etc.) to see if I should wait or is there a big enough difference or is the price about right for what I want to pay.

Years ago I found I was getting "burned" and not realizing it, plus it gives me a list of items to look for when sales come up without trying to remember or keep wish lists that can disappear. It alsokinda handy to have when in the B&M's for comparing and having a list, especially if looking for obscure, OOP or limited titles.

I think that this is all a system glitch. Probably it will take at least until Tuesday before some resemblance of normality will prevail. Don't they boast of having the cheapest prices, when shipping costs are added, of any online merchants. Their unresponsive CSRs will be working overtime to pricematch products if they don't fix this soon.

Do you think the studios raised their prices also? There have been articles that they are.

No they have not. They typically do not raise a title after release.

Anyway, Evil Dead 1 and 2 went from 42.xx to 46.xx

nah - can't see this happening (a glitch that is). more like preparation for the 'unmentionable time in november'. Push the prices up now - and then have the sale. gee - i'm cynical
