in-store pickup Best Buy

I was wondering if I were to do a in-store pickup for an item can I pay with cash when I get to Best Buy. I really don't want to use my credit card, and there site says they don't charge your card till you show up. I just want to make sure they have the item when I get there so I don't end up wasting my time.

AFAIK, only credit card purchases can be done online then picked up in the store. No cash. No checks. However you pay online is how you pick it up. You show the card you bought the product with online and you're on your merry way.

Pay online with the card, then just keep the cash and write a check to nullify the charge on your card.

You aren't wasting your time with in-store pickup. Its a reservation system that says the item is sold until you decide to cancel the order.

Best Buy also sends you one of two emails that tells you to wait until you get a second email stating the item is ready to be picked up.

If the item is out of stock at your preferred store, you get an email that asks you if you want to choose another store or have the item shipped free.

Plus if you're order isn't ready and it takes them more than 1 minute to hand you your items after you give them the paperwork you get a free $10 giftcard.

I wish I knew the $10 gift card rule. I spent almost 45 minutes getting my order yesterday. Where is that rule written? or is it on a store by store basis?

Are you being serious or sarcastic?

I got semi-screwed twice with Best Buy's order pick up feautre. First was with the celestion speakers being clearanced to $150. I got a confirmation and drove about 30 minutes. The cs couldn't find it. We went to the speaker section with my friends and couldn't find it. Fortunately, there was a competent worker and looked it up on their system. It said 1 was available and took him about 30 minutes to find it. Worth the hassle because I saved more than $150.

Second one was with the 300 box set debacle. Same scenario, got 2 confirmations and went to the store. CS said she couldn't find it and sold out a day before. Talked to the media manager and asked why I got a confirmation. He said it was automated. I complained to corporate and told him the media manager lied to me. Someone must have confirmed it or else the confirmation email is pointless. I got a $25 gc. I also talked to the gm and he sold me 300 on Blu Ray for $15. Not worth the hassle because the drive was about 30 minutes as well and only saved a couple of bucks.

i don't think that's a rule. i would say HUGE YMMV on that. in some cases i've seen with other customers being helped at the customer service desk, if you make a big stink about almost anything, they'll try and appease you by offering a gift card for your troubles. but waiting over 1 minute for them to get your order is not one of them. in one particular case that i overheard while waiting to pick up some items, they messed up some guy's delivery and he started complaining about how he had to take off work to wait and that they should give him free delivery yadda yadda. they ended up offering a GC but i dunno how much.

Well it's a rule at my local store in Rockaway NJ. There's a sign posted on the service counter that spells it all out. They even give you a stop watch to time them after you hand them your paperwork.

I recently placed two seperate orders. One was for an external HD and the other was for the 5 DVD deal they ran a few weeks ago that gave you a free $20 gift card. I got the emails saying my orders were ready for pickup except one of the DVDs that listed as in stock when I ordered was now out of stock. I was planning to pick them up the next day after work and before I went I checked the status of the online order again and it still said in stock. So I called their 800 number to have it delivered as the email states they will do for cases like this and the woman on the phone checks the status again and said that the store had it on stock now and perhaps they got more in. So I had her send me a new order confirmation that said it was in stock and off I went.

Now I get to the store and hand the clerk all of my print outs that says what I ordered including the new print out from the so called out of stock item. He hands me a stopwatch and tells me to time him as gets my things. 1 minute and 15 seconds later he has everything except the DVD that was out of stock and then in stock. I explain the situation to him and the call I made to the 800 number 2 hours ago. He talks to his manager and he says that it must really be out of stock and they can't find any copies in the store. The clerk even tried calling the 800 number to see if they could help. The guy really was trying to accommodate me and fulfill my order.

Well after being there about 20 minutes now I tell him that I'll just have it shipped free to my house from the warehouse and not to worry about it. I then ask for my $10 gift card and he started to explain that since I had 2 orders he had 1 minute for each of them. I countered that I understood his reasoning but my order was still incomplete and the policy states that they will have my order complete in 1 minute. So I wound up with a $20 from the order and a $10 for their screwup.

Here's the text from my most recent in-store pickup confirmation email:

Store Pickup Guarantee
Ready at the counter, or $10 off your order! When you reach the pickup counter, we guarantee you’ll have the product in your hands within 1 minute (and within 5 minutes for larger items such as Major Appliances or TVs over 20").**

Of course, I can't guarantee that that's on everyone's emails.

that's pretty cool. maybe it's a region-specific thing they're trying out before they roll it out nationwide? i have yet to see a sign in-store here in so. cal advertising this and my last in-store pick-up e-mail had no note.

I checked my pickup emails from my recent orders. Not a word about a GC. I agree it must be regional. O well. Maybe next time.

thats funny, because whats written on the faces of the csrs at my local bestbuy is,

"we guarantee that you will get it when you get it. if you are not satisfied, you can get 100% of your money back by just leaving."

or something like that. it varies.
