i'm interested in purchasing from amazon.uk and i was wondering if there's an extra charge from your credit card for the currency conversion. thanks for any help in advance!

There are 2 different charges that can be applied. One is 1 or 2 % that is charged by Visa or Mastercard for instance (and is never waived) and then there is another currency conversion fee which certain issuers charge additionally and other issuers do not. Check with your card provider.
