Target's Lame...

Went to my local Target tonight to pick up South Park Season 8...nothing on the shelf, no new releases for that matter. So, I asked a kid working in the department..."yeah, our truck just showed, we're stocking the new releases right now. If anything, we get most of the new releases by Thursday."

WTF?!?!? It's 8:30 at night on Tuesday, and they have no new discs, and if all goes as planned they'll be stocked by Thursday. What gives?

This is standard practice for Target. Shouldn't this be in the store forum?

I've noticed similar stupid shit from the Target here, too. I guess they don't realize the amount of sales they lose to people who walk next door to Circuit City or across the street to Best Buy and get what they want from there since Target takes their sweet fucking time getting the new releases.

Maybe they got in trouble for breaking prestreet on some titles before and now they can't get the DVDs in early. That happens sometimes.

We get stuff in on Monday always. Then again my Target is one of the highest grossing in the country so they make an effort to have stuff when they're suppose to.

The one next to me has always had new releases out when the store opens on Tuesday. It's pretty rare that I go there to pick something up, though.

I'm surprised to hear of your experience, I've had several occassions where I hit Target on Tuesday morning to get a new release, and it was either on shelves or the woman was out unloading boxes and made a point to dig it out for me.

Just because one Target sucks doesn't mean they all do. I know stores that have stock (and sale prices) the day before the advertised starts. I also know ones that are a bit slow on the uptake. But that's also true for CC, Best Buy, Walmart et al. In some of these big boxes the staff is motivated to help. In others, they don't seem very motivated at all.

I also meant to suggest that if this is a consistent problem where you shop, discuss it with the department (or store) manager. A few diplomatic suggestions might well prompt faster stocking in the future.

I hate the fact that Target does not pricematch. Anyone know why that is?

I assume they feel that they do not need to do it to be successful. Their prices are equivalent and sometimes better than BB and CC and Walmart doesn't advertise so there is nothing to match there. Besides, most people aren't willing to drive all over the place to save a buck or two so there is no need price match. They are either going to go to Target or one of the others. Their main competition is Walmart and most people I know would rather pay a little more if that's what it takes to not have to go into a Walmart store.

Its all about individual experiences...Personally for me, I would rather buy at Target than any other store, but of course it all depends on price. And no they dont price match, but hell the other stores dont either half the time.

My town only has a wal-mart and some other stores. So if I want the cheaper price, I have no choice but to price match at Wal-mart, otherwise pay anywhere from $5-$20 more for DVDs & Sets. But yeah I have had problems with Wal-Mart not wanting to price match a title. However I have found its mostly the check out people that don't want to do it for some reason. If it happens, just ask to see someone higher up on the chain. Works every time!

I wish they would pricematch, too, but I'll bet it's because DVDs/CDs/software are loss-leaders. They're not in competition for you to buy a DVD, they're in competition for you to buy a vaccuum, a garden hose, a blender, a pair of pants, and a tea cozy.

I don't think I've ever had a problem finding a new release at any of the targets I've been to (Maryland/DC area).

That's the written policy, but have you ever tried? I've gotten CSRs to do it on occasion if I'm purchasing other items with it. Target CSRs have a $10 authority to do whatever they want on a single item.
