First off, the policy that they will only pricematch if the other store has it in stock is valid, at least to me. Otherwise, CC can advertise a plasma TV they have one of for 1 cent, sell it, and BB would have to honor that price for every TV they have in stock.
Basically, a price match is a way to get you into the store, an extra incentive to stop you from going somewhere else. If there's nowhere else for you to go, why would they match the price? To be nice? And if they refuse to pricematch, well, then go to the other store to buy it.
And while I dislike the whole "angel/devil" customer thing, from a business perspective, does BB really want to keep as a customer the guy that buys only loss-leaders and always goes where the cheapest prices are anyway? Are these the kinds of people that buy the high margin items at BB, or will they buy their plasma TV from a cheaper online store?

Now keep in mind this is the first thing i have bought from CC besides CD's and DVD's, so it left a bad taste in my mouth. So i decide to bring it back and shop elsewhere. I go back to CC the SAME DAY i bought the DVD player and they charge me a $60 restocking fee!!! They claim that it is now an "open box" item that they will sell at a discounted price. So i argue with the clerk and get the store manager to come down and basically they would not budge. I understand that "technically" there "open box" policy is in place, but instead of satisfying a customer they just wanted there $60. So in the next few years when i purchase 1-2 HD tv's, a PS3 and games, a blue ray or HD DVD player, and never mind the countless DVD's i purchase CC will have none of my business. They have there measely $60, but in actuallity they have lost thousands from me.
Make sure to dispute the charge with your credit card company.
If that doesn't work, just go there and take or break $60 worth of merchandise. Don't be a sheep.

The in-stock thing makes sense to me. "We'll price match, because we want your business!" is the underlying message. If CC doesn't have the item, well, if you're going to buy it at either store, you're going to buy it from BB.
Reminds me of a joke.
Woman goes to a butcher; says "How much is your lamb?"
"4.99 a pound."
*gasp* "The store down the street has it for 2.99 a pound!"
"Well you should buy it there then!"
"They're out of it."
"Oh. When *I'm* out of it, it's only 2.59 a pound."
I do agree, there's room for 'bending' a little for the good customers; but then, there's also policy, which is already reasonably nice for the customer. And just because you *have* spent money there [which might not be worth their time to prove], doesn't mean you will continue to spend money there.

I agree. CC also seems to be more likely to not have titles on sale in their ads. I went in a few weeks ago to buy the Tales from the Crypt S1-3 Dvds that were on sale for 17.99. There were none in the store, and the manager said they probably wouldn't get any in, even though they were advertised in the circular. This has happened several other times in the past with sale items. I think sometimes they just don't want to sell them at the price.

Not when they pretend to call the other store and just make up an excuse (which has happened to me every time I've tried to PM there). It must be in their SOP.

Seems like a pointless exercise anyway, because it's been my experience that when I call up a store and ask if something is in-stock they just tell me "yes" no matter what.

Ordering online and having it picked up is a good way to go, especially when you can use a cash-bank link. Unfortunately this doesn't apply for DVDs.
The few times I've PMed at BB, it's been fine.

They've always had quantity issues if I recall correctly.

Grab a page pic of the season(s) and spit it back to them!

And I have had my share of issues with both places (I would say they are equally pretty shitty imo). The fact is, at either store, and others as well, sometimes prices are good, sometimes not. Sometimes service is good sometimes not, and etc.

So basically they would be making $60 off of nothing.

On rechargable batteries, don't most instructions tell you to charge it for 24 hours the first time before using? CC is only open 12 hours a day and he took it back the same day he bought it?

No more CC for me. I'm sick of them never having the dvd's they advertise in store. Today was the last straw. Went in with a list of dvd's they had advertised and they had exactly one in stock, and I was there when they opened. Even when they do have the dvd's in stock they usually only have a handful of copies. Maybe I've just got the crappiest CC in the world. But regardless, I'm through with them.

I don't know if that's limited to CC, though....
Friday, my Best Buy had 0 copies of the Tick, advertised at 19.99.
Today, when the sale is over, they had no fewer than 15--at the regular price of 24.99. I *guess* they could have gotten a shipment between Friday 1500 and today 1800, but the timing is a little suspect.
But, at least I knew where to look at BB, on both Friday and today.

Then, it takes you 10 minutes to find an associate to man a register so you can pay and be on your way. I hate their checkout system.
It makes no sense to have your primary checkout be customer service.
On the other hand all my local Best Buys seem to be turning to shit as well. The largest one (the one I usually go to) recently reset the store. It sucks now. I'm not really in to TV sets so walking in and seeing 1/3 of the DVD space designated for TV shows irritates me.
Their PC game section shrank from about 8 whole shelves down to 1 1/2 shelves. I guess to make room for their freakishly large MP3 player section and the completely unnecessary XBOX demo center (which has consisted of some guitar playing game for what seems like a year).

I, for the first time of 2006, went to Best Buy to get MacGyver S6 for 19.99. Man, I hate how they ask for my phone number......
