Amazon Price Drop Policy

"Did you know that if the price on something you buy drops, within 30 days of your purchase date, Amazon.com will credit you the difference if you ask for it? It’s a not-advertised price drop policy that most people don’t know about and it’s saved me tons of money over the last few years." Hope many of you find this awesome.

Thanks for the heads-up but this policy has been discussed many times before on this forum. It is a wonderful policy, and I have saved a ton of money using it. In fact, your post just caused me to check the price of a Mr. Coffee Hot Chocolate maker that I recently ordered at $35.99, but was then reduced to $28.99 (got a $7 refund already), and today is reduced to $24.99. So I will receive another $4 refund. It's a great policy. (By the way, OT, but this hot chocolate maker is pretty cool, and worth $25 for some darn good hot chocolate and fun for kids).

Probably a stupid question....but... does this go by ordered date, shipped date or date that you're charged for the item?

My guess is ordered date.

I've done it before. I preordered a DVD months in advance, then the price was dropped after the release date. I called in and they refunded the difference.

I just tried this on my last 3 orders. The first two were no problem but the third for some reason i didnt get a refund. This is what they replied with in the 3rd email:
"Thanks for writing to us at Amazon.com.

We realize that from time to time, our customers will be able to
purchase a single product from another store at a lower price than
ours. We recognize that you have a choice of retailers and are
pleased that you would prefer to order from us. Unfortunately, we
do not have a price-matching policy at this time."

sounds like they thought you wanted a price match, either the person reading the email misunderstood, or maybe the price went back up before they read and responded to the email..try again, can't hurt..

i pre-ordered harry potter 2 discs and narnia 2discs about 3 weeks ago so i could still get the amazon prime before my trial ran out. now the prices about about a dollar cheaper for each and they haven't even come out yet. if i email them about this will they still give it to me cheaper or do i have to wait til it acutally comes out?

sometimes it takes a while (few hrs, maybe a day) ..sometimes it's instant..sometimes they fuck up and refund to your CC instead of giving back via GC..it'll go eventually...

Amazon.com refunds when prices drop?

I was curious if anyone has been able to request a refund due to a price change on Amazon.com. I used to do this all the time... after ordering something, the price drops, then ask for a refund of the difference.

I just did this and got refused... they said:

"The discounts we offer on items on our web site do vary from time to time. We regret that we cannot apply our current discounts to orders which have already been shipped."

Is this a new policy? I didn't notice any previous topics... sorry if this is duplicated.

I received a refund over the weekend. If this is a new policy, it was just instituted within the last two days.

Thanks for the info, must have been an inexperienced CSR.

I've never had a single request for refund get refused, so I would say your experience was not typical. It might be worth trying again. Here is the refund request link that I use:

Quite possible. I've had run-ins with idiot CSRs the last few days. They've been trying to convince me that the details in my order history are incorrect. I've noticed a steep decline in the customer service at Amazon. I used to be able to pick up the phone and talk to a CSR who would solve the problem. Not anymore.

I've gotten two refunds in the last two weeks with absolutely no hassle. Actually had two very pleasant conversations with the CSR. I use the help page link where you put in your number and they call you immediately.

There is a website were it tracks if the price drops on things you've bought and lets you know if they do so you can tell amazon to give you a refund of the difference

That's cool, what is the URL?

I usually re-add items I buy to my cart and refresh my cart once or twice a day to check on prices.

since my order completed yesterday, and i still had the -3.16 on my balance i emailed amazon and asked when i would get credited back to my GC account.

"As we charged your gift certificate funds for the above mentioned
about there will not be any refund made to your account."

WTF? just b/c it's not real money i won't get it back? i'm glad the price difference wasn't higher. what if i had had a $20 difference and they told me the same thing...arrrghhh.

that's odd..I had both orders paid with combination of GC/cash, pure GC, and usually got a refund via GC, once they gave me a refund to the CC, but always gave $ ..I'd email em again..that's weird..

Did you emphasize the fact that they overcharged your giftcertificate account by $3.16? Demand that you should be compensated!
