How is Best Buy's electronic exchange?

I bought a DVD player (Philips DVP642) at Best Buy Friday which I finally got around to hooking up yesterday. It's a lemon- the drive spins the disc up 4 or 5 times and makes that horrendous clacking sound before it will play. About half the time it won't load the disc at all.

Is BB pretty good about exchanging stuff like this? I bought it out of state too- will that be a problem?

If it has been <30 days (and you have your receipt), you should have no problem at all. Outside of 30 days (or no receipt), you have little to no chance of getting it exchanged.

Out of state should not matter. Being that you got it Friday, it should be totally painless. I had to exchange my LCD HDTV after 28 days and it was as easy as I could imagine (which was also out of state).

Get a different player, those Phillips things are POS. Check out any online reviews..like Amazon and you will see multiple complaints.

I have had the same exact model in my living room for months and have had absolutely no problems with it.

I disagree. Until I got my Oppo, I had a DVP-642 and loved it.

Yes, there does seem to be a high number of lemons produced, but once you get a working one, you are set. For my money, it cannot be beat for its price.

I highly disagree. The Phillips DVP642 is probably the best $60 I ever spent. I have family members that bought one too. Zero problems, unless the AVIs you throw at it have odd encoding. Plays just about all DVDs, burned, rewriteable or silver, without a problem.

yeah you'll have no problem returning it. Your dvd is not a lemon though, it has not has to break 3 times for it to be considered a lemon. Good luck

Huh? You mean you have to have it repaired twice before it is legally considered a lemon?

No, just take it back and say that it's bad - get a replacement.

If you had purchased a repair plan at Best Buy to go along with the DVD player and you were over the 30 day return policy, they would then replace it up to 3 times before considering it a lemon and giving you a replacement.

Ah, gotcha.

I took it back and had no problems returning it. New one works great. Only problem, I left a disc in the old one and didn't realize until hours later. I couldn't get it back.
