Universal Rewards MC by Chase - Intentionally damages DVDs when shipped

You all may remember me posting a thread in the DVD bargains page about getting the Peter Jackson’s Production Diaries – King Kong for a really good deal with the points I accumulate for using that card. Well, I got the DVD box, and much to my surprise, the UPC looked like some one took a screwdriver to it, or a mouse thought it was tasty and ate half if it. I was rather mad at this, and called the card company to get it switched out. Well, it turns out that some one did take a screwdriver to it, intentionally. The distribution center rips the UPC with a something sharp. They said that this is to stop re-selling. Now, I used to work for Blockbuster, and I remember when they would give out DVD’s, and the UPC space would be blank. That is fine with me, it is not damaged. But this was obvious damage, and that item is more for collecting the watching. I would just like to know if anyone else has experienced this, and if not, how can this be legal. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Stuff that gets sent out for review gets the UPC slash... When ADV does their sales from their website, they also send out slashed UPC stuff .. It's just as they said, to show that it was a promotional item, and so you can't bring to a store to swap it for something else...As far as being legal or illegal, they really can do as they wish ..It might even get sent to them that way before they send to you, but maybe Universal told them .. regardless, there's not much you can do (imo) ..just live with it..

Thanks pilot. I guess that is my only choice. It just bugs me that they just started this practice, it didn't happen 8 months ago. Oh well.
