Amazon Package Problem

Amazon Package Problem
I moved 6 months ago. Either by fault of my own or Amazon* a package was sent to was my old address. UPS shows it delivered (almost a month ago). The current residents of the house that I rented did not return it to Amazon. I don't know the current residents and now live 8 hours away. I emailed Amazon and they said I needed to have the package sent back to them before they can sent a replacement. A second email went unanswered. I did send a certified letter to the current residents in hope that they would come around and send it back, but they didn't and I haven't heard from them (I gave them my info). Now I am at the point where I need to see what my next step is in this situation.
Options as I see it:
1) Continue to talk to Amazon including a phone call to see if they fix the situation.
2) Make a claim with UPS to see if they would pay for it since they delivered it to an address where I wasn't the resident.
3) Try to go through the CC company to stop payment b/c I didn't get the product and seller not working with me yet.
4) Send another letter to old address with a little more forceful wording. I could get people in old town to find out the name of these people which may put more pressure on them and show them that I am serious (though this option may involve getting people involved who don't want to be involved).
I guess I can try all these options but basically want to hear if otters had this situation and how it played out. Thanks.
*I think but not 100% sure that I changed my address long before this $100 package was sent and my other orders through Amazon came to the right address

I have no advice for you, but I had something somewhat similar happen with a friend's Christmas purchase off of their Amazon wish list. For whatever reason, they shipped the items separately with one going USPS and one UPS. The USPS item was returned to Amazon because my friend had not updated his address when hemoved, but the UPS item was not. When I called, they refunded my money for both purchases because they indicated they had proof from the USPS return that it was the wrong address.

Call Amazon.com and see if they'll deal with it. (I would have done this before sending that certified letter, actually, just because it's much easier.) If Amazon.com refuses to work with you, dispute the charge with your credit-card company. Easy as that.

I can't remember a time that a quick call to Amazon didn't resolve a problem. I think they farm out their email responses to folks trying to quickly click on form-letter responses... They keep their phone number sufficiently difficult to find that it's usually not a long wait.
Call them.

Well, I have been trying to fix this over the phone and of course their system is down and they are not sure how long it will be until it is back up. It did sound like they would refund my money as their policy is to wait one month and then issue a refund. Thanks for the input and phone #. I will post how this turns out when I find out.

OK, they took care of it and actually sending me a preplacement with express shipping. Now the question is should I just be happy or should I try to put some pressure on the people who recieved the package. I would like them to think they are in trouble with the law if possible.

Generally, you, as the recipient, can do very little with UPS about the mis-delivery. Shippers like UPS and Fedex consider their contract to deliver to be with the sender, and not the recipient. So any actions or complaints about this delivery would have to originate from the shipper, Amazon. I say let them deal with it, forget about it, and move on.

If I got a threatening letter from someone I've never heard of, I'd throw it away laughing. Then I'd go back to watching all these free DVDs I got unexplainably.
