Best Buy's prices
Is it me or are the prices at Bestbuy not as competitive anymore. We went in there over the weekend shopping around and their prices seemed overly high.
Any opinions on this?

I went there the other day and they wanted 54 dollars for season 1 of Smallville.

The Best Buy that just opened down the street from my workplace is in no way competetive price-wise with the Circuit City across the street...even the loss leader stuff they advertise in the weekly newspaper inserts is almost always more expensive. Plus their stores suck...or maybe it's just this store?

If you check many of their hardware prices (non-DVDs), they price them at $2-4 over MSRP, while their website shows them at MSRP.
It's just another way for them to boost profits hoping people won't care.

I noticed their rising prices as well. The other day, I was in and noticed that 24 season 4 was marked at $57.99. I looked at the other seasons and, except for season 1 marked at $48.99, they're the same price. I know for a fact regular price used to be $44.99 for these series, as I've bought multiple copies of multiple seasons as presents for friends and family over the past couple years. I've seen some other box sets climbing as well. Seems like they're giving up on trying to compete with online pricing.

Prices are hit and miss. None of the stores have great prices on non loss leader release items or non-sale items IMO.
CDs seem to be $13-15 and DVDS $15-25 at BB, Circuit City, Target etc.
Though I have noticed that Best Buys loss leader release week DVD prices have tended to be a buck or two above Circuit City lately. Which works for me as I used to live near a BB, and not a CC, but moved and now it's just the opposite.

Their prices are usually higher than Circuit City re: movies, etc. But their selection is the best of any b&m I've ever been in. They still run the 2/20 deals, etc. Plus, their online store has better prices on several different dvds. Always be on the lookout for that. For example, the Alfred Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection is listed as $84.99, but their instore price is $98.99. Also, don't ever have them "price check" on the website from the store...they have it setup somehow to where that store's specific prices are reflected, not the true online price.
Reward Zone still helps.

Anime DVDs went way up about a year ago. Some studios are full MSRP. For a while we were buying a lot of anime at BB, as it was only a little more than DDD.
It's been back to shopping at DDD lately.
