Thanks movielib for the additional coupons.
DVD Soon is costing me way too much money!

Jaymole 03-18-05 10:43 AM

Another problem is that you can only order 8 items at a time. I have one coupon left to use, just got to hope that their prices don't go back up again.

I nominate DVDSOON as the most schizoid e-tailer of the year.

I'm a DVD Soon defender but I can't argue with that. We could call them "Sybil."

You just have to adapt to their strange ways.

It appears that the coupons cannot be combined with the membership discount anymore. Is this the experience of anyone else as well? Maybe I should clear my cookies ... might that help?

At the final checkout stage, the site will only register one or the other and not both!

Dabaomb 03-22-05 03:55 PM

The exchange rate is getting worse and worse.
It's at about 0.83 now.

You're right! I doubt very much that clearing cookies willl help. It looks like DVD Soon has changed the rules again

They do drive me crazy but I've learned how to play their games pretty well. Fortunately, just Sunday I ordered everything I had on my list to preorder at this time. I still have one of the codes left to use but I won't use it unless I can combine as there's no point to it.

Till the next goofy thing they do...

I just signed up for this today... I hope all the good deals aren't gone forever.

Even if I don't end up using it much, $49.98CA for the Amityville Horror Box Set and The Shield: Season 1 (my free DVDs) isn't that bad.

raining_helper 03-23-05 07:03 PM

Perpetually modifying the terms of the membership, DVDSoon has just added the following clause to the small print:
"Fidelity iCard savings do not apply to gaming consoles."

movielib 04-11-05 12:26 AM

FWIW, I found a new code:

MAXXMA05

Since you can't combine the coupons with Fidelity membership discounts any more this would only be of use to nonmembers.

Dazed 04-15-05 02:57 AM

So do people recommend joining this fidelity iCard club ?

Im thinking of completing my Stargate sg1 collection and so they seem to have great prices on the boxsets.

Do you automatically get the discount applied if you buy the membership and some dvd at same time or do i have to become a member first and wait for it to be processed ?

Also I dont understand their shipping charges for non members. if i ordered 4 titles would it be 2.98 per title or 2.98 in total ?

Thanks.

You get the discount right away.

It may still be worth it if you order a lot of stuff. However, there are also some 10% off coupons good through April 30th--so you could always use one of those, but you'll still have to pay shipping.

I'm not sure what shipping costs since I've been a fidelity memeber since December and have had free shipping all that time.

shipping is $0.99 CAD per order or roughly $0.80 US

Sounds to me they are going the way of Cyberrebates and trying to rake it in on the downswing. Be smart and don't use anything but a credit card

raining_helper 04-19-05 12:35 AM

Just a heads up for those dvdtalkers who still support and use dvdsoon (as I do) ... there are some serious price reductions happening right now ... akin to last October's 6.66 sale. Tons of stuff priced at 6.98 CAD, and with the 10% off that (with either your membership discount or coupon) these are great deals.

So far, I have bought:
6077 Dark City: Platinum Edition 6.98
17542 Marty 6.98
125305 Tom Jones 6.98
5278 Annie Hall 6.98
119513 Coffee & Cigarettes 6.98
37041 Happy Campers 6.98
121414 Safe 6.98
133841 Disinformation: The Complete Series 9.98

TOTAL (after membership discount) = 55.40 CAD (approx 44.71 US)

Jaymole 04-19-05 12:56 PM

Tried but I can't place an order, the website is really having problems.

ChrisHicks 04-21-05 10:34 AM

I have used DVDSoon about 10 times so far. I like their prices but I don't like that it seems like they never have anything in stock. I always have to wait atleast 2-3 months for every title I order. its not a big deal that I have to wait but 3 months does seem a bit extreme. I'm judging my current "on order" order of the Amityville Collection to decide if I want to use them again. it was listed as in stock when I ordered it but as soon as I checked my order status it was "on order" this was on April 5th.

raining_helper 04-21-05 01:23 PM

They do, as discussed earlier, seem to be having trouble getting MGM product. I pre-ordered my copy of the Amityville Collection on February 22nd ... and it has still not shipped!

That being said, everything else arrives on or before street ... I received my Errol Flynn collection and copy of Malevolence last week.
Placed another small order, taking advantage of the chaep prices before they disappear:

18079 Shining, The (New Kubrick Collection) 9.98 CAD
36142 Royal Tenenbaums: Criterion Collector's 9.98 CAD
131295 Silence Of The Lambs, The: Special Edition 9.98 CAD

TOTAL (with membership discount) = 26.35 CAD (approx 21.26 US)

It is worth noting that of the order I placed on April 18th (just two posts above), 3 items have already shipped.

Interesting news - in the DVDSoon email this week:

*Coming soon to DVDSoon.com... Previously viewed DVDs at low low prices!*

This could have real potential, I will have to keep an eye on how this develops.

Yeah, I got this too.

Speaking of DVD Soon, their prices have finally come down some but not enough to get me to start ordering from them again.

I have been getting my preorders in timely fashion.
