Incorrect discount on "Classic Comedies" at amazon.com?
This may not qualify as a "bargain" per-se, but I'm hoping to get Amazon to correct a pricing error on a pre-order.
I've been waiting to order the upcoming "Classic Comedies" collection from amazon.com, but it is currently showing a pre-order discount of only 10%. All of the previous Warner collections have been at least 30% off. In fact, all of the individual titles in this collection are showing a 30% discount, so the box set should be similarly priced. I've sent an email about the pricing to Amazon (no reply yet), but it might be helpful if others do the same.
Here's the link I used:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/contac...romotions.html
The ASIN number for this collection is B0006Z2KXY

Like you, I'd like to order Warner's Classic Comedies Collection from Amazon, but haven't because of the "non-discount" discount.
Fortunately, DVD Planet has this box set up for preorder at 30% off with free shipping, so if Amazon doesn't get their act together in the next few weeks, I'm going to order it there (of course, if Digital Eyes or DDD offers it for less, I'll go with them instead.)
It will be interesting to see if this is the start of a new sales trend, and Amazon offers the lousy 10% off on Warner's Broadway to Hollywood: Classic Musicals Collection (when they finally get around to listing it) but 30% off the individual titles. If so, I see STL requests from many forum members dropping faster than Enron stock.
EDIT: Per your suggestion, I also sent an email complaint about the set's price to Amazon.

The more I check into this, the more I'm convinced that Amazon has this collection mixed up with another one. Notice that their title description states this as "7pc", when it's actually "6pc". Also, the 10% discount would be consistent with a title that has already been released for awhile. The trick will be to try and reach someone high enough at Amazon that can check into this and make the correction. Thanks for your help.

Well, I got email replies back, but neither of them acknowledged the possibility of a pricing error. I even supplied them with URLs for this item at DVD Planet, DVD Empire, and DDD showing they had discounts of 25%-30%. I may try again using the phone in order to get it escalated.

We recognize that you have a choice of retailers and are pleased that you would prefer to order from us. Unfortunately, we do not have a price-matching policy at this time; 10% is all we can currently take off of the list price of "Classic Comedies Collection."
We realize that from time to time, our customers will be able to purchase a single item from another store at a lower price than ours. While we don't always beat the best available price on every product, we do offer deep discounts on many thousands of items.

I really don't understand why Amazon has the Classic Comedy Collection at 10% off and at the same time they have the upcoming pre-orders for the Gangsters Collection and the Classic Musicals Collection from Warner at 30% off. Sorry Amazon but it will be no sale from me at only 10% when other stores are listing it much cheaper.

Now with the later Broadway Collection back to 30%, this might make it more obvious to someone at Amazon that the Comedy Collection is priced incorrectly. I'll try to pursue this tomorrow with Amazon.
However, I don't think it will hurt to keep pursuing the matter since it might convince them to lower the price if they thought it was hurting sales. Maybe you could include a link to this thread to show Amazon what some of their customers think about it. If it appeared there was a significant backlash they may reconsider the 20% mark up.

Thanks for pointing this out. I sent them a note asking them to review their pricing, that I've bought several Warner box sets from them at 30% off MSRP, they are going to lose a lot of sales at this price, blah, blah.
EDIT: I got back the same canned reply about no price matching, etc. I fired back that they should pass along the feedback to decision makers. Somehow I doubt that the message gets through to the people who really make a difference. Every complaint from us is individually deflected by a CSR with the same canned response and that's as far as it ever goes. Maybe a phone call would be more effective, but I doubt it.

Well I talked to a "Team Lead" at Amazon today. He seemed to understand the points I was raising and said he would pass the information on to "the buyers". He said it could take up to a week before any change would show online, if indeed there will be a change. Unfortunately, he doesn't always receive an email reply back from "the buyers" to his query that he can pass on to me, so I guess we'll just have to keep checking the price to see if anything changes.

Does the "team leader" have an email address that you can give us?
I'd be happy to send him an email to let him know another Amazon customer is going elsewhere if they don't lower the price on this set (and yes, like everyone else, I got the "canned" email about Amazon's pricing.)

Well, when I checked today, the only evidence I see that they made any correction was that the title changed from Classic Comedies (7pc) to Classic Comedies Collection. With STL and a 25% AMEX Wishlist Certificate, the difference for me only came to $9, so I went ahead and pre-ordered it. If it does eventually drop in price, I'll ask them make an adjustment.

I contacted customer service yesterday to ask about the Classic Comedy Collection possibly being listed at the wrong price, and I also voiced my displeasure with some of the higher prices of other recent pre-orders they had on their web site. I will next try giving them a call soon to see where that leads. Unless Amazon lowers the price to 30% off I will probably wait until the release date to decide where to purchase this box set. But anyway here is the answer, or should I say runaround they gave me tonight.
Thanks for writing to Amazon.com.
I see that you are not satisfied with the price list on the item
which you are looking for the purchase.
The price and availability of items at Amazon.com are subject to
change. Some discounts are particular to the time that an item is a
featured selection on our site; these discounts are limited-time
offers.
As the discount we are able to offer for any item is dependent upon
its availability, Amazon.com's price will necessarily change on
occasion. We are unable to honor a price that was advertised before
you placed your order.
Also, there may be times when Amazon.com runs out of stock of an item
that is also offered by one of our partner merchants. You may see it
displayed on our web site as available, but from a different merchant
and with a different price than you saw previously. Our merchants
set their own prices.
Please be informed that as soon as the item has been released, we'll
be able to ship it to you. As per our standard policy, we do not
charge you for items until they enter the shipping process, so you
will not be charged for this item until it is available and we have
shipped it to you.
I hope you will be able to take advantage of the many discounts we
offer on your next visit to our store. We sincerely appreciate your
business, and we look forward to seeing you again.
Best regards,
Antony

Good News! I just checked Amazon's listing today for the Classic Comedies Collection and they've changed the discount to 30%
Thanks for all the emails and phone calls that everyone made to help get this price changed. Time to call and have them update my order.

Glad someone at Amazon actually listened and did something about the price. Since one of my Amazon friends sent me love that was about to expire in a day I went ahead and ordered a copy before they can change their minds. Sent love to everyone I could find requesting it.
