Actually, my free shipping from DDD has always come about 6 days after showing it shipped. Only once has it ever come later than that, and that was during the great 20% sale of '04...

I chose FREE shipping, and it still hasn't arrived.
Have I been jipped?

If I'm not mistaken, their site clearly states that the free shipping uses USPS Media Mail which generally takes from 5-10 business days, so if it was mailed on Oct 28, that's only 7 business days so far.

Deepdiscountdvd's free shipping is through USPS and therefore incredibly erratic. I got the Fritz Lang Epic Collection from them on Friday (shipped last Tuesday, streets today), meanwhile an order with the three newest Blue Underground titles shipped October 30th and arrived today. I never have too long a wait, but a couple of friends just a state or two further away wait much longer for their orders than I do.

The USPS media mail is very slow and not tracked. Normally it comes in < week, but sometimes it may never come, and occasionally it takes a very long time (one of my wife's anime orders showed up at the 29 day mark).

MediaMail can be tracked, but AFAIK DDD doesn't do it. Not sure why, because it's very low cost if they pre-print the postage label, which they appear to do.
But at any rate, MM can take up to a month or more regardless of where you are. It can just get hung up in the system for whatever reason. That's why tracking is especially important with MM.

DDD uses Media Mail for it's free shipping. This is one of the lowest priority services that the postal service provides. I buy from them all the time and delivery time usually is from 4-14 days to here in upstate NY. I've had a couple orders take 3 weeks. It doesn't bother me, but if you are in a hurry to get you're order you'd be better to pay for one of the faster services. Don't blame DDD the fault ls with the postal service.

The whole thing with Media Mail being low priority intrigues me. How exactly is it handled? Do postal workers immediately put it aside and move on to other stuff? Only gets on the plane if there is room? How does it work...for those of you in the know?

I used to receive media mail faster than priority mail but it never happens anymore.
