A Blockbuster question from a Blockbuster noob

So I finaly crossed over to the dark side and became a blockbuster member last night - but the pull of the 8 bucks per DVD was too great to ingore.

As I was cashing in, I asked about getting them to order some discs for me. The guy said "We're not allowed to do that anymore."

Wa? You cant get movies anymore? That's crazy talk!

Is that something only MY blockbuster does - or is that an across the board policy now?

From what I've read in the other Blockbuster threads, they do indeed special order.

Maybe he means that he's screwed up so much that he is not allowed to do it any more.

Well, from what I've read on the other threads here and experienced myself recently, your actual mileage may vary from store to store. Several people seem to be having success pre- or special ordering the bargain mis-priced box sets (SCTV, Looney Tunes, etc.) but the employee I talked to the other night at my nearby BBV refused to pre-order SCTV v. 2 for me because "the store wasn't going to carry it when it was released."

I am planning on trying a couple of other local BBV's here in the next few days, or perhaps waiting until next week after the title actually releases. Heck, I may even go back to the same store when other staff are working and see if I get the same story. But it is pretty apparent that policies vary greatly store to store (or even by region perhaps), so I would recommend that you try a few different locations.

(I am in Tucson, AZ by the way, so if anyone on this forum knows of a local BBV store that is taking pre-orders/special orders, please let me know...)

It's bull they won't preorder any more. In fact, at Game Rush stores if you take in your used games, they will pimp preordering games and a way to spend your credits. Also, they are constantly offering rental cards with preorders for select movies. Their preorder system is alive and well, and growing all the time. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if all these stores turning people away have a kiosk up in their store somewhere that lists several upcoming releases and with a blurb that people can reserve their copy to day for five dollars. That's a preorder, folks.
