Bought a Wireless Router, and got a 32X CD drive...
Hey all. I went to Best Buy today to buy a new computer, and while I was there, I bought an open-box linksys wireless DSL router. When I got home and opened the shrinkwrap, a 32x CD Drive fell out. Obviously someone bought the LinkSys router and returned it with a 32x drive. I have two questions...obviously my story will seem a bit strange, but do you think I should have no problem returning this? Second, don't they check these before they re-shrink it, or do you think it may be internal theft?
Thanks...
Thanks...

Having once worked at Best Buy, I think there could be a good chance you are SOL. I hve seen these things happen before and the people were brushed off as thieves. They may take care of you but in my opinion it is less than 50-50 that you will be satisfied. BTW, while BB is supposed to look through returns this could have been an inside job by someone else after it was checked out by a computer tech or whomever. I have seen cases of this before, where an employee has taken advantage of an open box to switch merch and pass the screwing along to the customer. Good luck!

Did you buy with a credit card? If so, and BB won't take it back, refute the charges with your CC.

That's the new magic number now isn't it?
182,000,000.
Your cut is 7.50 an hour.
To the original poster, Good Luck. Why you didn't check the merchandise beforehand though, I'll never know. These things are conveniently ALL SALES FINAL.

I knew a guy who did this for all his computer upgrades. Bought the upgrade, swapped it for the old component, shrink-wrapped it (he worked at a video game store), and returned it. Eventually he was caught. Remarkably, he got off light: he only lost his job at the video game store.
My recommendation, Gizmo, is to return it and be completely honest about what happened. Let us know how it goes.

Hey all...
Went back the next day (on my lunch break) and was lucky enouht o get it eschanged for a new one (without paying the difference). I got a few stares, but they eventually beleives me (didn't hurt that I just bought a $900 computer on that same transaction either)

glad to hear it went ok, for you. After reading your little story, I remembered this happened to me as well, years ago. Bought an atlas cd drive, and got an acer cd drive (in the atlas box) (at least same product, though), but I hate acer products, and really didnt want it, so went back to exhange, got a few weird looks, but they reluctlantly took it back and got another, opened it right there though to verify...all was good.
Makes you think when you buy stuff there.......huh?
