geez

Or how about the father who has worked in High Tech for 20 years and has not had a pay raise for 3 1/2 years, he needed money for Christmas and took a job at BB to pay for Christmas for his kids and a new Diamond ring for his wife (who lost the diamond in the 1st ring a year and half ago).

He made about 2 grand in about 2 1/2 months.

Oh but they DO offer financing, automatic 90 days w/o interest if you use your BB card under $300. I spent over $300 black friday so got 6 months. Interest accrues from purchase date, so "no interest" period may be from 60-90 days depending on the billing cycle. This may only be pennies on a DVD, but if you buy regularly you may have a long list of promotions that can get mixed in with any longer promotions for a tv or computer. I've never paid em a nickel in interest. BB would rather not fork over 4% or whatever Visa/MC charges now for each transaction. Retail Services is probably a cheaper payment entity and Compusu uses them too.
I recall asking a female BB clerk over forty (younger than me) if they had "Niagara" on its individual release date - she started to take me over to the documentary section!

Ah, who cares. I know everything that's released on every Tuesday...come into my Best Buy, I'll take care of ya.

Plurals and Possession

I'm sorry I don't have anything too constructive to say, (I have however had lots of luck at my Best Buys *knock on wood*) but I do have a very, very important thing to add.

In the English language the " 's " symbolizes possession, or the contraction of the word is/has

Therefore:
DVD's = "DVD is" or something belongs to the DVD
CD's = "CD is" or something thing that belongs to the CD

In order to make a noun plural, in English, you add just an " s " without the " ' "

Therfore
DVDs = more than one DVD
CDs = more than one CD

These examples used in context:

I have a lot of DVDs. All of my CDs are really cool.

My DVD's case is amazing. This CD's cover is awesome.

This DVD's the best ever. = This DVD is the best ever.

This CD's an aural masterpiece. = This CD is an aural masterpiece.

Just remember, it is never, ever, EVER proper to use " 's " to indicate a plural.

If you can follow this very easy rule, then you will come across as a far more intelligent person, instead of simply one of the ignorant masses, soon to be overtaken by the ideological organization ACROSS.

That's not 100% accurate. Several places recommend the use of "CD's" and "DVD's" as a plural. For example, the following link ( http://dissc.tees.ac.uk/Mistakes/apo...phes-Print.htm ) recommends either method, and I also believe the New York Times has stated that its official policy is to use "DVD's" and "CD's" instead of DVDs and CDs.

So your opinion on the matter may be (and likely is) the majority view, but it's not necessarily the only correct usage.

Not true. It's a common and accepted practice to use an apostrophe to indicate a plural letter, number, symbol, or abbreviation.

Take a chill pill. There's an exception to every rule. Still, not many "skilled" people are going to work at Best Buy (which pays not much above minimum wage) for any length of time.

I asked a young man in the computer department if they had a RAID card. He didn't know what it was. Although I would like people in the computer department to be able to answer questions like this, I explained to him what it was and he was able to answer my question. I've always found the best defense in places like Best Buy, Fry's, etc. is to know what you're talking about before you go in there.

We are all screwed if we start basing written American on what the UK has for standards. The British actually know English, while here in the states we have concocted our own language.

Spooky 01-12-04 12:12 PM

I was in my local Best Buy on Friday, picking up "Solaris", "Down With Love" and "28 Days Later" before the $12.99 sale ended, and I had to laugh:

There were about 30 people waiting to check out and TWO (out of 12) open registers. This wasn't a Monday morning...this was a Friday night at 7pm! So it took me longer to check out (about 30 minutes) than it did to shop (about 10 mintues).

My Best Buy always has plenty of registers open.

Well, to be fair, that's your fault for going in their on X-mas eve.

Every store I've been to on X-mas eve has had lines going halfway around the store.

Around X-mas, go weekday mornings or afternoons (lunch break), they usually have a decent amount of registers open and most people are at work.

Well, to be fair, Best Buy is always understaffed. When they should have four checkout lanes open they invariably open only two. When they should have all ten lanes open (like on Christmas Eve), they only open seven.

The same can be said for their customer service desk, which is rarely staffed by more than two people, no matter how long the line.

Feel free to apologize all you want for the store with the worst customer service in the biz.

I guess I'm just lucky. I always get good service at my BB. My local wal-mart and circuit city are the ones that suck.

Another thing to consider is that employee's scheduled to work on x-mas eve might have just not showed up/called in sick.

I worked in a department store during x-mas 2002 and just didn't go in x-mas eve or the day after. It paid crap and I could care less if I got fired.

But again, if the service sucks, write their corporate office and stop shopping there. No need to keep going and keep bitching about it on the net over and over.

No way are they worse than K-Mart or Circuit City.

I think this is typical of a lot of retail stores in the last few years. Wal-Mart likes to call keeping the checkouts understaffed, "controlling expenses" What Best Buy, Wal-Mart and other retail establishments don't seem to understand is that if they would spend a little more money on keeping the registers staffed, it might pay off with people checking out faster, and thus more people actually checking out and buying products. Less people would get pissed off and leave without making a purchase.

That's exactly what I've done. The $100-200 a week I used to spend at Best Buy is now going elsewhere.

I think that it is highly unlikely that one store made that much in sales in the holiday season alone. I doubt one store would sell that much in cds/dvds/games in an entire year. If you average each item at $30, this means that one store sold 6,000,000 items. Which is impossible.

I call BS on this one. I work at The Beast, and no store made that amount during the holiday season. Is seems that if you are going to try to outright lie, it is best not to lie about somthing that is easily proven wrong.
