Nice how everyone seems to think that teenagers are the complete morons of galaxy. Guess this means that a few years ago, the people complaing were total retards. Just think how people in their 20s-40's while you were a teen were saying how retarded you were. Did you find some mysterious potion that brought you out of your moronic state so now you can call teens morons or does hitting 20 automatically increse your IQ by 50 points?

I haven't noticed anyone making a blanket statement of teenagers being morons.

Like I said earlier it most likely has more to do with the employer. If people aren't motivated to do a good job, or if you don't hire people who have even a remote interest in the items they are selling, you are going to have crap service.

yeah, every other week I might check out BB on Tuesdays. but I'd say 90% of my dvds are dropped at my door....anymore, on-line service is the only way to go. it's worth the extra cost since I never have to hope a dvd is in stock at the store, or waste my gas and time searching out my needs. so I just cant complain about BB the way I used to. I just dont go there that often.

I never go to BB unless its for something in their weekly ad - in case I have trouble finding it, I can point it out easily.

All other items are cheaper online or not worth the hassle.

BB use to be my favorite store for electrics but its has gone way down hill in the last few months at my local BB anyway, countless times Ive went in there to get a new released CD and they dont have them out and it takes you at least 15 minutes to ether search yourself for it or have some clueless 16 year old look for it for you, sometimes there will be new released CDs/DVDs in boxes underneath the DVD shelves where no one can see unless you do a search mission.

I use to walk in and have people run up to me saying "do you need some help or are you looking for something etc."now your extremely lucky if one of them looks your way,the place is turning into a mess and Circuit City is the spot for me now especially with the deals they have going there in the past few months, ive bought a TV,CD player,DVD at CC all three where cheeper then BB.

And finally BB return policy is the worst ive ever seen, you have to have your game face on to return anything from there.

ahhh yes...the people who wander into stores expecting the worker to be the oracle. people need to get a life, work retail for a few years---as I have going through college---you will understand and you will then see how you yourself act aas reflected in the image of the crude, demanding customer. something happens in the circuitry of the human mind when they walk into a store: it buzzes, then shrieks, eventually exploding...as they demand, harrass, become impatient. You have to understand something, this is CORPORATE AMERICA. they don't care about their employees. MONEY MONEY MONEY and be damned....what happens then? the workers become alienated, I'm sorry if that's Marxist, but its the truth.

you and others like yourself are a disease that need to be permanently cured.

The only time someone in Best Buy will offer me help is if it looks like I might steal something. Then dozens will run over and help me, follow me, and watch me for the next few minutes.

I have never had a problem finding anything at BB, all I had to do is ask nicely and the employee was able to look it up in their system or take me right to the shelf were it was located. Sometimes they were out of a certain title (Monk 1st Season), but they were able to tell me if they have had the DVD

I would not like to be treated with the same attitude some the posters have in this thread.

By the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

i dont care if you get paid crap, DO YOUR JOB...

i dont care if youre a moron, DO YOUR JOB...

i dont care if youre working your way through school, DO YOUR JOB...

i dont care if the customer before me was rude to you, DO YOUR JOB...

last i checked, Best Buy wasnt a self-serve store, i happen to know what im looking for when i go into a store, and where it should be, but to expect everyone to do this is absurd, it is NOT OUR job to do THEIR job, it is not self-serve.

I've been to Best Buy twice and I doubt I will ever go there again... even Wal-mart has better selection when it comes to dvds these days.

As far as Blockbuster, I've been impressed with them lately... wandered in one day and saw Throne of Blood CC sitting in the new releases section and Aparjito in the festival section.

I also think Blockbuster has dropped the whole family friendly thing, they have soft core porn sitting in the new release section nowadays.

I'm not saying that Best Buy shouldnt carry it, but ...

To expect the masses to know what that title is, is stretching it quite a bit.
Are people working in the DVD section of a store "the masses"? These guys are complete clods, which I'd have no problem with, but don't ask me if you can help me when literally 9 times out of 10 you can't. How hard would it be for each DVD worker to have a one sheet listing last week's, this week's and next week's new releases in their pocket. They might actually appear as if they knew their ******* from their elbow in that instance. But I won't hold my breath. I don't expect much, but he's not wrong for being upset by this ever dwindling customer service versus exponential price increases. If they are jacking the price, shouldn't someone a bit more about DVD's then the difference between Full frame and widescreen(come to think most probably couldn't articulate that distinction without the "black bars" crutch)

If I was making $6/hr, I couldn't care less that you can't find a DVD on your own.

Every associate I asked looked at me like I was speeking a different language, and two of them took me to the Animated section to look.

Is it too much to ask, for them to get the release out on Tuesday???
I know that I didn't find that title either. But it can be had for about $14.00 from Canada.

Their prices are getting close to Tower and Suncoast lately, so I would expect the same customer service. I've cut down on Best Buy, just some big releases.

They couldn't tell the difference between the new Escape from New York SE and the old version. I asked the goofball where it was. He pointed to old version and kept insisting that was the new one. After going back and forth a few times and more customers looking for it, he asked another "blue-shirt." Then a few of them got together discussing and looking at the ad. One went in the back and finally got them.

****************************************************

There are points to be made with each quote here and I must say in my own case I did my job at Borders exceptionally well and ultimately was treated like crap by both management and a few members of their customer base.

I was brought up to do a good job regardless of circumstances, pay, etc....

But obviously everone may or may not work at the same level of efficiency or possess the same work ethic that I did.

Best Buy of late has been extremely poor in the area of customer service. Today's experience of having 2 checkout areas open with 40 or so customers waiting was inexcusable in my opinion.

I did however find what I was looking for with a minimum of time invested and still exercise to shop there when (price / title) are tilted in my favor. Slow checkout times are what I must contend with if I choose to shop there and I only visit there infrequently.

Yes! Normally I'd have ordered Beyond Re-Animator online too, but finding it at retail early was too tempting.

......and how well I know that trek across the BB parking lot desperately hoping that "obscure" AWOL title is sitting on Border's shelves.

Glad you got it, but holy cow! look at all those great releases in your sig!..................How do you find the time?

?????

Last I checked, every store that doesn't have "personal shoppers" and cater to the very richest 1ish percent of the population IS a "self-serve" store. To NOT be a "self-serve" store would mean that a store employee goes around and does your shopping for you.

I must disagree with you. Most of the products are out on shelves so you can find what you want quickly.

Could you imagine if it was a "Employee-Serve" store only. You would have to wait for an employee of the store to take to a glass case and unlock it to get you your DVD. You would then log onto a forum and complain how much easier it would be if it was more of a "Self-Serve" store and how much quicker it would be to get your DVD.

Safeway, Albertson's, 7-11, K-Mart, WallMart, Macy's, Sear's, Target...are "Self-Serve" store. If you need help finding a product, all you have to do is ask nicely and someone will help you. But, no one is going to follow you around and place it product in you basket.

So you must humbly admit you are wrong with you statement about the store not being a "Self-Serve".

All I have done is ask an employee when I go into any store, and if they do not know the answer, they would let me know who does.

By the way, I am not trying to be an "apologists of incompetent workers", I am just saying that 98% of the workers I talk to know their business and are very helpful, the 2% are the ones that get slammed. When was the last time we had a thread about how good the service at a certain store was. Because people like to point out the bad, not the good. Maybe pointing out the bad makes us feel superior or something.

By the measure you use against others, it will be used against you.

Everyone have a great and safe New Year!
