I've been underwhelmed (if that's a word) by the ssssslllllooooowwwww response of DDD in the wake of their 20% off sale and their everyday prices aren't that great IMO.

GoVegan 12-09-03 04:18 PM

I'm a little disappointed in how slowly things are moving, but I did get some great deals, so I can't be too upset. I'll be annoyed if the things I bought as presents don't arrive on time, but hopefully that won't happen.

So far, out of four orders placed, one on the 4th, one on the 5th and two on the 6th, only one DVD has shipped, and it was from my last order. Strangely enough, according to the order info on the website, Twin Peaks Season 1 shipped on March 28, 2002 and they charged me $43.19, which is more than double the regular price. Apparently they knew way before I did that I wanted that set. :)

Yeah, but I think that "millions of satisfied customers" is probably accurate . . .

And I'd say that only 10 individuals complaining is a bit of an understatement. There have been quite a few anti-DDD threads (and posts) around here for several months.
I was just commenting on what I had seen since the sale ended. In those threads, I've only seen a handful of people complaining in multiple threads . . . maybe 10 is too few . . . perhaps 20? I'm not counting the ones who are only concerned about when their DVD's will arrive . . . if/when they do (as I am fairly confident they will), these will just be more satisfied customers.

What's not great about the "everyday prices"? They are consistantly lower (notice I didn't say "always lower") than anywhere else and there is no tax or shipping?

:hscratch:

LOL! Yeah, o.k. You may "think" that's more accurate, but I know otherwise. Based solely on what I've read around here. Again, these past few months anyway.

I received my order today, about 5-6 days after I ordered. Very happy with this service.

No complaints here, got my X-MAS gifts way ahead of time.

Yes, thanks for the edifying riposte. I'll take it under advisement:rolleyes:
I'm well aware that copious threads have been initiated with angry comments about DDD - and many of the other merchants - ,but consider this: What percentage of DVDTalkers who receive their orders to their satisfaction come here to open threads of praise? Less than 1% is my guess.
On the other hand, if they are angry at a certain company (even if it involves something as inconsequential as receiving the order a couple of days later than expected, as they often do), many here are liable to race straight to their computers to cast aspersions. DDD obviously has a huge volume of orders; it's only to be expected that things will go awry from time to time.

A first-hand tale: Some time ago I ordered about 10 DVDs from DDD. After 5 weeks I had received nothing. Worried that my movies had been lost in the mail, I called DDD. What did the CS representative do? He immediately sent out the very same order a second time, no questions asked. As it turns out, the first package arrived a few days later. When the second one came I simply refused it, and it was returned to DDD at their cost. I was very impressed with their readiness to solve a problem forthwith, even though they were not at fault.

DVDKrayzie 12-09-03 11:26 PM

DDD almost always mucks up my orders. i used them for the first time in a while because of this coupon and they screwed me yet again (double-charging this time). Also their CD website is even worse. I've been waiting 3 weeks (from their release date) now for some CDs I preordered that were in-stock from the day of release. Also the media mail excuse is just that--an excuse. I get stuff sent media mail from New York (I'm in Cali) a lot--5 days TOPS. DDD, I can forget about my order and then a month or so later, it finally appears. Not to mention their customer service reps flat-out lie. "uh yea, it shipped today". a few days later, I get the shipping e-mail, "oh we can't cancel the order so soon after placing it, call tomorrow" I call the next day, "it's too late to try to cancel that order, you'll have to refuse shipment and then we'll credit you" So after the wonderful month-long wait I refuse shipment, and it takes a few more MONTHS to get my credit. They took so long last time, my credit card expired, and it was such a pain.... okay I'm done now. Millions of satisfied custmers my @$$. Screw DDD

I believe Daytripper was simply making a point to ther person who claimed there were "millions of satisfied customers". Obviously, there are not judging from the numerous people complaining about this company.

Of course there are many people who are "more than happy" to take DDD up on their 20 % coupons. They see a bargain and jump on it.

Personally, I had a problem with them myself when I ordered the "Ghost World" DVD. I pre-ordered, the title was released and was never shipped. I finally cancelled my order and purchased it elsewhere.

DDD is going down! Bet on it! If they had public stocks for trading, then I would short it to bankruptcy.

BlasTech Industries CEO 12-11-03 11:33 AM

Yeah I'm sure there are more than 10 or 20 people complaining about them, and not as many as a million, but it doesn't really matter. What matters is this 20% coupon is a total fiasco and they have lost more than one previously satisfied customer (me and some friends) who all got screwed during this recent buy spree.

That's what I've been wondering for some time. Some of the problems people have been having lately plagued DVDexpress.com shortly before their demise. I am one of the more satisfied customers of DDDVD over the years. However, I too have noticed problems with them recently. Mainly, they run out of new DVDs very, very fast. Some of the new releases of the week show "backordered" the day or the day after they come out. I had to wait three weeks for my Christmas Story SE. While not a major issue, I just learned to never order anything from them that's backordered. That was one of the major problems that hit DVDexpress.com right before the end, when they had problems with their creditors and couldn't get new DVDs in the week they came out and nearly every new release they had was always back ordered.

I placed a huge order with their 20% off sale, and am more than happy with my experience. I got a ton of DVDs for way cheaper than they would have cost at many websites. But in the back of my head I was wondering if this could be an inventory reduction type sale, and they are soon to close. I guess time will see.

ntuc 12-12-03 12:22 AM

they will make a loss if they honour all the 20% discount so no choice but to fake it by saying ur credit card got problem and cancel ur item.

If you're refering to the original poster, his order was placed before the coupon was available.

Apart from that, I agree. :D

To those who ordered the Alien set. Anyone get it yet? My first 20% order arrived in 5 days. Alien is 7 and counting.....getting annoyed.

Considering how many of us have had such hefty new releases as the James Bond Collections, POTC, and the Alien Quadrilogy ship out, (along with several other titles released just last week), it hardly seems that suppliers withholding product is any problem.

If you opted for the free shipping, they specifically say to allow 5-10 business days, so rather than be annoyed, you should be happy that your first order arrived so promptly. I also heard that there's some sort of holiday on the horizon that affects the speed of postal deliveries...

eddiekirk 12-12-03 01:49 PM

What holiday? And why is the post office so crowded lately?

I know, I just expected the same amount of time on the 2nd order.

Nope . . . and the blame for the falls squarely on the shoulders of the USPS. I once had two DVD orders get shipped via Media Mail with the 1st one shipped a week before the second one and yet it arrived two days after it. :hscratch:

Strange company. I hope I get at least the second order for Christmas. The third one can wait a little while.

Randall_Lind 12-14-03 01:24 AM

Never had a problem

I never had a problem and always get my DVD's from deepdiscountdvd.com. I admit they are slow but heck I am not paying for shipping so I don't mine.

I used to buy from DVDExpress then they got sold and went to crap. In which I found DDD and I have been happy with them.

DrS 12-14-03 11:19 AM

60 some odd orders and no real problems yet...
