Just a quick piece of advice for anyone redeeming your Best Buy Reward Zone certificates:

I went to BB the other day and bought 2 DVDs priced at $20 each. I had my first $5 Reward Zone certificate to redeem, so I applied it toward the total.

Unfortunately, instead of taking $5 off the total amount, it rang up as taking $2.50 off each DVD. Thus, when I had to return one of the DVDs (duplicate gift), I only got $17.50 back. I don't know if this was a unique case or if this is common practice - it's partially my fault for not asking about how the $5 was deducted in the first place.

I can understand that some less-than-ethical people might try to return both DVDs individually and somehow try to get the full $40 back (thus, negating the $5 certificate). However, had I known this was the way it was done, I would have applied the certificate toward something for myself that I was absolutely positive that I wasn't going to return. I knew BB did this with "package" DVD deals (e.g., 2 for $15, Buy 1 Get 1 Free, etc.), but didn't even think about it when it came to these certificates.

Anyway, just a word of caution to help you in redeeming your certificates in the future. Hope it helps.

I think you had an atypical case... I got about $110 in BB RZ certificates after purchasing my home theater system, and I used all 22 $5 certificates (why they can make larger denominations Ill never know) to purchase a new progressive scan DVD player. The guy just rang in all 22 certificates and it went through without a problem.

I redeemed two certificates the other week when I was buying Weird Science and Breakfast Club, but since I had the BB specific $5.00 off coupon for Weird Science, I made sure that I placed those two discs on one transaction and used that coupon. Then I also bought Saved By The Bell (Boxed Set) and used the 2 $5.00 coupons I had for that making sure that they wouldn't try to pull any funny business with the way they allocate coupons.

I never trust the way the system will allocate coupons and discounts, so if I know I want to price-match items, I will do all of those items as a separate transaction to be sure that I'm going to maximize my PM money back.

I just got my first RZ statement in the mail (I actually never got a membership package...kind of annoying that way...), but there were no reward certificates. Do these normally come seperately, or did I get jobbed? Thanks in advance.

My Certs were applied like the first person said as discounts on the original purchase price. It seems to take about 3 months from date of purchase to get certs.

It's standard to take the discount of multiple items in the transaction. Most of the time they'll split the deduction of two items, but depending on how many certificates are used, it'll take the deduction off of 2 or more items.

my transactions rang up like the first poster as well. Another thing to look out for, i tried to use one with a $5 off coupon for a $19.99 video game, after she applied both, my total came to $14.99. After explaining it to the cashier about 10 times that it should be $9.99, she cancelled the transaction and started over. Well, since she already scanned my RZ cert, it would not let her scan it again for the new transaction, it was automatically voided. Eventually a manager came, and put $10 on a giftcard and ran it through for me. So be aware when you're using the RZ certs and a coupon since it may not actually deduct both if the RZ cert brings the price of the item down below the minimum the coupon needs.
