Netflix question
I'm thinking about joing Netflix, many times when I rent from a local video store the disks are scratched or damaged. Do you guys ever have those sort of problems with Netflix?

The conditions of the discs I get from Netflix are much better than the ones I used to get from the video store. Occasionally i'll get one that's smudged, but some Windex quickly takes care of that problem.
I figure 95% of Netflix members actually know how to handle a disc properly.

I have been a member for about 3 years now and can only twice remember getting a disc that would not play properly, even after cleaning etc. This is most annoying but I think you can agree that is not bad after that length of membership. I did at one time have a few problems with discs going missing as previously mentioned also but then that also just seem to stop. Very few if any problems last 6 to 12 months.

I've been a member since 1999 and have only encountered probably five or less unplayable discs (One of which was almost broken in two). If you do have disc problems they'll promptly send out a replacement.

With NF since May 01.
One disk that was shattered all to heck; one that skipped/stuttered for about 20 seconds so I had to skip to the next chapter [it was Reign of Fire, so I didn't miss much].
One disk that took three weeks to get here, and one disk where it was the totally wrong disk sent to me [wrong disk, wrong envelope, a movie I never heard of.]

Plus, if you do somehow get a stinker, you can go right to the website and click the "This disc won't play" button. They'll ship you out a replacement copy right away.
Easy-Peasy.

The one & only time I had to report a disc as unplayable, it was probably around 4:00 in the afternoon on a Friday. The website immediately showed it "in process", and I had a replacement disc in my possession on Saturday.
Excellent response time.

I have had a few scratched to where they would freeze while watching them. Just reported it on the website. No problem. Has anyone else been seeing long turn-a-rounds in getting new dvd's shipped? Used to be 3 days at the most for them to receive a disc. Now it is about 6 days.

No unplayable discs so far.
On the delay, I just joined about a month ago, and noticed it takes 5-6 days to turn around a dvd now. Used to be 3 day from when i put last movie in the mailbox to the next one received. I noticed also things show up on your que as shipping tommorrow.
If this continues this month, I'll cancel the service.

My service is still as crisp as ever, I've been with them for about a year...haven't stepped foot in a Blockbuster since.
I got The Big Lebowski, it wouldn't play. It's been my only faulty disc.

I've never gotten a disc that wouldn't play. I did get Caligula once instead of Cleopatra (sooooo glad I didn't let my daughter put it in the dvd player herself. . .

I have been a member for four years. I think I have had maybe 3 unplayable DVDs from them in that time, out of around 500. 2 of those were made playable with a bit of cleaning. This is in contrast to about half the films that are unplayable and/or need cleaning from Blockbuster.
On the turnaround times, Netflix tends to have occasional rough patches that last a couple of weeks. During those times, it takes them about 1-2 extra days to send a film out, and receive it. I don't know why, but my guess is they get backlogged due to a rush of new subscribers, or get shortstaffed because of vacation and illnesses, or they have some technical glitch that has to get fixed.
I would recommend sticking with them for more than a month in order to get a feel for how many films you are able to rent from them. I usually get 10-15 a month for my $20, which is a far better deal than Blockbuster, and I don't get shafted with late fees.
