Well, CH doesn't carry a lot of the discs I want, so it doesn't work that well for me. ;)
And yes, I miss the good old days of coupons galore, but what I miss more is online stores, like the old DVDPlanet, which have dropped off the cliff in terms of reliable service. |
I just got a great deal through this forum on the 8-disc Claude Chabrol Collection. It was priced at $14.99 (now $71.99) at Best Buy, and I would have never known about it unless it was posted in this forum.
Along another line: so I should quit CH now that I have fulfilled my agreement, and rejoin? |

I remember the days when Reel.com would pump out coupons that were supposedly for $10 off $25, but more often that not, you could use those codes to get $10 off any single item. Ah, we sure ran them out of business...

Bargains?!
Bet when you posted your question you didn't expect to get dissed by all of the sarcastic folk that check out this sited. Bottom line? You're right! Bargains ARE much fewer than they used to be, and I don't see Columbia House as a viable alternative!
|
LOL CH is the only alternative, c/o the clubs forum rather than listening to people who don't know what they are talking about.

Re: Is it me, or we do not get nearly as many bargains as we used to?
Originally posted by accessories4sale I recently came back to dvdtalk after a long 'time-off'. I remember killer deals all the time, but they seem to be all gone. I guess the internet bubble blew up and with it most of the really good deals we used to get all the time... snif |
Re: Re: Is it me, or we do not get nearly as many bargains as we used to?
Originally posted by TheKobra Im with you. I remember the days of www.reel.com and www.bigstar.com where you could pickup dvd's shipped for $3-$5 each. Now we just have to search a lot harder to find deals out there. You can still find good deals but one thing to remember there are a lot of dvdtalkers that don't post deals. |
Columbia's selection is pretty slim unless you're only interested in typical Hollywood fare. The collector seeking out older, foreign, cult, and obscure movies is pretty much SOL.
Also, there are fewer "great deals" to be had these days, but we have to take into account that DVD prices have plummeted as well. DVDs that would have MSRPs of $30.00 can now be easily had for around ten dollars. |

Originally posted by D-Ball CH has about 3,500 titles now, and they are adding to it each week. Whatever your tastes are, I'm sure you would find enough titles at CH that are worth signing up for. A: Blockbuster. |

i dunno what blockbuster you shop at, but the ones I go to a) dont have prices even close to CH and b) have pretty much all WS movies.
the only time Block prices are comparable to CH is when you compare PV'd block stuff vs brand new CH stuff... and even then CH is cheaper sometimes. I have seen so many scratched to hell dvds from rental places, that Id much rather spend 50 cents extra per dvd and get them new from CH than risk it with da Block. Better selection at CH too... box sets etc. j |
Originally posted by DavidH What I don't get is why so many people think buying a DVD for $14.99 is a bargain when it can be had for less than half of that price from Columbia House with 23E. Unless it's a box set, or title they rarely carry, I always go through CH. |
