Can one use a GC for an item that is set for release after the GC expires if it is placed before it does?

Meaning if I have a GC that expires in May can I pre-order something that is set for release in June or does it only get redeemed when the item ships?

Yes - The GC is immediately applied and disappears from your account once you place an order. The only potential problem is if you cancel the order after the GC expires. You then may not be able to use it...though some people have had success dealing with a CSR on the phone in those circumstances. YMMV
