Every DVD I've tried to return to Best Buy without a receipt has been sealed.

If you don't have a receipt will they only give you store credit, or did anyone actually get cash?

I'm pretty sure they will only give you store credit without a receipt. I don't know of any stores that are willing to give cash for returns without a receipt.

Store credit. Best Buy probably realizes that people are just using their store to return gifts (whether they were bought there or not) and are extending this "customer courtesy" in hopes that you'll continue to shop there.

I'm still puzzled why some Best Buys won't give store credit at Christmas time for unopened DVDs (that they stock) while other Best Buys will. These stores aren't franchises. I think perhaps there is a clueless manager or employee running the store. Or perhaps the competition from surrounding stores isn't very strong so they don't have to offer this "customer courtesy."
