Where to Rent in LA??

I just moved here from near Chicago, where I was spoiled by Facets.
Anyway, where's the best place to rent in LA? Thanks in advance.

Try the basics.. Blockbuster, hollywood video, and a newer place.. Penny lane. there is a store in Pasadena Ca. (outside of L.A.) which is basiclly just dvd's used and rental.

for used stuff Amoeba Music on sunset blvd. is the best in prices and man do they have a selection.

The three best places are Rocket Video on La Brea & Melrose in West Hollywood, which has everything from Dolemite to Criterions to giallo slashers to experimental Czech animation.

In Santa Monica (further west) there's Vidiots which has the same selection as Rocket.

In Los Feliz/Silverlake (near downtown) there's Mondo Video on Vermont Ave. above Hollywood Blvd. which specializes in all things underground, exploitation and foreign. Only glitch is you're charged by the day. Rocket gives you two days. I don't know about Vidiots.

Rocket membership is $25 a year. By the third year you're a lifetime member and don't need to renew. Mondo Video membership is $5 a year. Hope this helps.

I'd be interested to hear how these places stack up to Lazer Blazer (sp?) in West L.A. This place specializes in Laser Disc and DVD and has the best selection that I've ever seen.

thanks for the help people. I'll check out Mondo Video first, as I'm in Echo Park, adjacent to Silver Lake. The other stores in the area are pretty weak (other than Video Market's porn section, which is the only decent section in the store), so I'm salavating about these.

Welcome to L.A.

You might try joining a local Blockbuster and getting in on one of those 10-week rental cards for $25 (the current one is for Monsters, Inc.). These cards work differently in California in that they don't require you to rent for consecutive weeks and they have no expiration date. You get the free DVD too!
