Blockbuster's new "Rent it, Like it, Buy it" program

I just saw a television commercial for Blockbuster that was promoting a new program called "Rent it, Like it, Buy it", where you can get a guaranteed purchase price of $9.99 for any previously-viewed DVD that you have already rented. There weren't a lot of details, but it sounded like you could "reserve" the previously-viewed copy as you return your rental, and as soon as popularity drops, you get your copy.

Rent It! Like It! Buy It!
Price excludes tax. When you rent a select promotional title (titles determined by Blockbuster) on DVD at this store location, you can purchase one (1) previously rented DVD copy of the same title for a selected price plus tax! Both the rental and purchase must occur at this store location. This offer is not transferable. Promotional price can not be combined with any other discount or offer. Promotional price cannot be applied to any other title. Previously rented copies are limited in quantity and only available while supplies last. There may be a substantial delay between the release of a title and its availability as previously rented product. Membership rules apply for rental. Offer valid for a limited time. See receipt for applicable rental promotion dates and expiration date of promotional price. Membership rules apply for rental.
So that would work out to about $14.50 for a used movie. If you look for a good deal, you could get a new movie for only a couple of dollars more.

Also, they only apply this offer to certain DVDs. For example, this week they have "Collateral Damage, The New Guy, and Showtime" available for this offer. I do not want to own any of these movies.

BB sucks...it's a scam!

Just don't bother wasting your $$ on it. BB always does this limiting what titles are offered,or what days the coupon is good for & aton of other BS hidden in the small print to scam customers!

Looking at the way most renters treat thier discs, I wouldn't like this at all. Might be worth it for rare or more pricey titles, but generally, I'm not sure the cost would be justified for the average title these days.

I, for one, am very happy with this. I don't go to the movies often, so I rent quite a bit. I purchased the LOTR 10 week card, so I can rent a movie like We Were Soldiers for free (essentially $2.50, as I paid $25 for 10 rental card). Then I have the ability to purchase that title for $9.99, making my total cost $12.49.

I also always inspect the disc before I buy it, and they have never been a problem.
