Netflix Is In My Grocery Store!!!
The Smith's on Charleston and Hualapai in Las Vegas, NV has a Netflix Express. $20 a month, three at a time, unlimited exchanges, no due dates. They have 3,000 DVDs at the store but they can order you whatever you want.
So same terms but NO WAITING FOR SHIPPING. Bye Bye Blockbuster!!
This is the ONLY one in the whole U.S. It hasn't been advertised but it will start being advertised soon. They "open" on Saturday and already people are flocking to it. 2 or 3 when I was there. They will have PLENTY of boxsets (Oz, Sopranos) I'm told.
indeed!

So how does availability work - is there something similiar to the online queue, or do you go to the counter and keep naming titles, or...?
This is very interesting. Keep us posted! And damni'mjealous!!

They have cases up in the wall. You grab the case and take it up to the counter just like BB. They give you a booklet that lists all DVDs made and they say they can get you mostly anything (anything from the online catalog can be ordered, but if you order, say, 1 title from the online catalog, you can only have 2 out at a time until it gets here, you watch it, and return it).

Man, did I say it before? Then I'll say it again: i'msojealous!!
Probably the best way to do it would be something like rent two dvds from in the store, and have one shipping in, or something like that, no? Unless the inventory for in store dvds is that good...man, I'm jealous!!
Anyway, so I checked my grocery store...(actually, two stores, one a Publix and an Archer Farms, which is part of my Super Target)
and guess what...???
(needless to say, I went looking for a Netflix Express...)
and....
Alas, there was none.
Maybe in the backroom?
Maybe tommorrow?
Ah well, for now, off to netflix.com.
I'msojealous!!!
Another question, so does your old netflix account (assuming you had one) carry over into the NetflixExpress Store? Oh, and do you get a membership card? And does it feel cool?
Oh, and by the way, can you pick up some dvds for me???

Both are different. When I checked out they said oh your CC will be charged in two weeks, and they confirmed that even Netflix Online members get two weeks free (and you know how Netflix is about giving anything free twice). Maybe it's a franchise like KFC?
They have around 3000 DVDs at the store. For me that's plenty since most of the time I don't want obscure. I rented Kate & Leopold, The Majestic, and i am sam, and saw A Beatiful Mind and Orange County both of which I own and one of which is already here and Gosford Park (which lost out to the other three ). They get the movies as soon as everyone else (and educated me on the fact that most DVD releases come out on Tuesday ) For anything else, 2 out would be fine. I have a feeling the three out is all they have since they didn't push any other program.
I didn't get a membership card, but did sign an application.
Even if ALL you want is obscure and it's not at the store, you cut out the shipping back

More news: The boxsets will count as "1" DVD out - they are getting The Sopranos 1 and 2, Sex and the City 1, 2, and 3, Oz Season 1, they already have the Monthy Python Complete Flying Circus (though not unpacked), and I have Buffy Season 1 in my player So The Sopranos season 1 would count as one of your three DVDs.
Nice knowing you, Blockbuster.
