Importing from Amazon.uk to the US, customs rates?
Hi there! I hope someone can answer this question for me. I just found out that the Robocop: Prime Directives box set was released in Region 2, but no signs of a R1 release. I went to Amazon.co.uk's website, and the price is quite good, but in the shipping rates helppage, it talks of "customs fees". On videos, it lists an average price that is twice as much as the box set!
Is this fee, or something approximating it, going to be added to my order after-the-fact? Anyone have experience with this? (Or, does anyone know if the R1 set is coming out any time soon?) Thanks in advance!

I've never had to pay a customs fee on any of the book orders I've placed through the UK site. I think it's just a general warning that the fees MAY be assessed.

IIRC, you're only charged customs fees for merchandise in excess of $400. Now, whether that's total or for an individual item I'm not entirely sure, but unless you're placing grandiose orders, you're okay.
Now, how fast is shipping from the UK?

I have never been assessed customs fees either. But then again, I have never ordered more than one CD or DVD at a time. I think if you were to place a large order you might get hit with a fee.

Prices are in Canadian dollars. The US cost is about $280 shipped. It's worth it!

There's a "hidden discount" for US shoppers when ordering form Amazon sites. Listed prices include a European Value Added Tax. Amazon's computers deduct this automatically when shipping to the states. Rates vary by country, but you can genearally save about 15%.
My Orders from AMAzon UK have been shipped very promptly by air. I usually have the DVDs within a week to 10 days of ordering.
Amazon.de (Germany) has exhorbitant shipping rates (almost double that of Amazon.uk). Currently an order that is in transit to me from Amazon.de is held up due to a postal strike.
