New Math at Amazon

The following is from a recent order with Amazon. I guess the lucky thing is that the number wasn't positive and they charged the correct amount, but geez that's one hell of a number.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Item Subtotal: $35.95
Shipping & Handling: $7.95

Total: -$922,337,203,685,433.75

Paid by Visa: $43.90

Whoops, they accidentally gave you their total loss amount since incorporation.

Or they somehow used part of your credit-card number in the total line and it was garbled by the system when it generated the email.

I hope you checked to make sure that wasn't part of your credit card number. If so, i think i'd delete that.

It's not a credit card number. MC start with 5, Visa starts with 4, American Express starts with 3, and I believe Discover starts with a 6. Or a 7. I don't see too many of those to remember. And it looks like too many digits. I am sure he's fine posting the number.

Actually, that looks like a null pointer resulting in a number format exception....but that's just a programmer's point of view.

Look at their top 4 sellers:
1) Harry (wide)
2) LOTR (wide)
3) Buffy 2
4) Harry (full)

All dealing with witchcraft in one way or another. Could the problem be .... SATAN?

Amazon has lots of problems with math --- look at any partially shipped order... they NEVER seem to add up properly.

Luckily, the actual charges usually end up right.

I'll second that. Especially if you place an order with a promotional GC at the time of order and then later add a regular GC to the order. It kicks off the promo GC on your total page, but it's still there and when they charge the whole order everything is okay. It's very weird.

Yes indeed!

Especially when you email customer service with the question and they have no idea what you're talking about with the order.

I had that happen once and had to email back requesting that it be looked at by a manager who quickly rectified the "problem."
