Bad experience with Playcentric

I placed one large preorder back in March containing one of each of the first two season of Star Trek: The Next Generation and two copies of X-Files season five. The order came out to be a little over $300. Because of this, I had to go with the Courier shipping and I also had to fax my credit card to them.

While I didn’t care for the charging of this order up front, I couldn’t complain because it is stated in their FAQ sheet. But after two days of the charge, I checked on my order and it had been canceled. I quickly emailed them to inquire why this had happened. They already had my money. Apparently, they didn't like that my credit card had “PLEASE ASK FOR PHOTO ID” instead of my signature on it. This is a personal thing that I do on all of my credit cards. In theory, this forces clerks to check my photo ID with that signature to confirm that I am who I say I am.

Anyway, Playcentric didn’t like this, so they decided to cancel my order and credit me. I fought with them on this and decided to fax them everything again, along with my photo ID. They accepted this, so my order was reinstated.

ST:TNG season one shipped a week after its release date. I had to inquire on that. So basically three-day Courier got me nothing because I received the set a week after release.

ST:TNG season two never shipped after May 7. On May 14, it did ship along with both copies of X-Files. On May 16 I received a small envelope containing one copy of X-Files season five. The invoice stated that all three remaining items were to have been included in this shipment. There is no way another season set would have fit in that envelope.

I quickly sent another email telling Playcentric that I was still due a copy of X-Files and my ST:TNG season two, as well as a $1.75 credit for Playcentric not recognizing the unique ship date of ST:TNG season two on it’s May 7 release and holding it to ship along with X-Files the next week.

Currently, they are planning on crediting me $1.75 and are “looking into” why I didn’t receive the other two sets. I’ve repeatedly told Playcentric that this is the last order to expect from me. It’s definitely not worth all the hassle I’ve encountered to save a little money.

Who knows when I’ll get my other sets. You know, when you part with your money up front, you own those preorders outright. Playcentric seems to think that since they have your money, you’ll be willing to wait until they get around to delivering the merchandise you already own. I will never prepay for something in advance ever again.
