Possible list of Kmart closures. 291 Stores!

...Including Both in My town... But luckily those places smelled like urine and deserved to be closed by corporate years ago.

A list of unknown origin suggests Kmart Corp. will close 291 stores in the country, including 16 in Michigan, as part of its attempt to come out of bankruptcy a stronger -- but smaller -- discount retail chain.

Kmart officials will not confirm that the stores on the list are ones that will close. The Troy company stands by its statement that it continues to evaluate the performance and leases of its 2,114 stores as part of its Chapter 11 reorganization.

The following is a copy of the list, obtained by the Detroit Free Press.
The list is too long to post, but here is the link:

Hope it isn't true.

I'll miss those cheap horror DVDs they have around Halloween.

All the ones near me are going down it appears. Even though I don't go their much, I do like the self-service check-out

Darn. All the ones near me are not on the list. I was hoping they would close a few and put a Walmart in.
I have at least 3 K-marts within 15 minutes driving distance, but no Walmarts. The only Walmarts I've been to were both when I was traveling out of state.

Figures!

I hate KMart, but the smaller, neater store near me is closing and the larger, filthier one is staying open.

I noticed this too. The clean, well-lit, well-organized one near me is on the list, while the one that looks like a grubby flea market is staying open. I mean, the place is nasty. Stains and grime on the floor, no organization -- merchandise is just piled up everywhere, worse than a SAM's Club, it's dark, and the parking lot is cracked up.

Wow, every Kmart in the Hampton Roads area is staying open. That's good news. While I don't buy DVDs there, I do pick up my favorite paperback book series from them...
