HELP: Best Buy (B&M) overcharged me by $3... can I go back and get it?

I went and got TFATF from BB today, and picked up Sneakers to get the rebate...

Well, the sticker price on Sneakers was $14.99, but when I got home this evening and was filling out the coupon and getting the POPs off the booklets, I looked at the receipt and saw they charged me $17.99 for Sneakers... (the kids were with me and they were cranky and I was dealing with them and didn't catch the overcharge...)

... now that I've opened the the DVDs and mutilated the booklets, can I just take the receipt back and show them that they overcharged me without the product in hand and get my $3 back (since they have other copies of the DVD on the shelf)?

Its not a big deal to go over there since its on my way home from work, but I'm wondering if I can?

Thanks in advance...

Almost the same problem

I had almost the same problem. I bought Moulin Rouge Tuesday along with some other items and didn't notice until I got home that they did not give me the 10% off on all musicals that they had advertised. Since I live just down the street from Best Buy I stopped in later with the receipt but not the DVD. The woman who waited on me wouldn't give me the 10% unless I had the DVD. So I ran up the street grabbed the DVD and went back in. Same lady then says "I'm sorry but Moulin Rouge is not one of the titles available for the 10% discount". So, I ran up front and brought back one of their ads and showed her that it said "10% off ALL musicals" and asked her where it said "excluding Moulin Rouge". She gets a tad angry and says that it's NOT a musical! Lol! I asked to speak to the manager and after explaining the situation to him he says "well it's not SUPPOSED to be part of the discounted titles but I'll give it to you..." Good luck trying to return or get anything back from Best Buy. I have at least a dozen stories of nightmare returns to them...Here in Daytona Beach they have a terrible reputation but there arent really any alternatives for B&M stores except for Circuit City which is just as bad...

Doesn't BB have one of those "if you find it for a lower price after 30 days they'll match the price?"

If so, go in with your receipt and grab another Sneakers DVD off the shelf and go up to the Customer Service Counter. Explain that you bought it and now the DVD is labeled $14.99. They'll most likely just give you your $3 back. Being you opened the disc and don't have the plastic (nor any proof that the label was on it when you purchased it or if it was on another dvd, etc.)

That's what I'd do...

Good Luck!

I would do what Ben732 suggests. It will most probably work.

Otherwise I don't think you have a right to claim your discount after the purchase has been made.

I bought a bunch of "bargain bin" sale items there once that had low price tags, but they scanned at full price. Unfortunately, I didn't realize it until after I exited the store. I turned around and went back in and they sent me to the dreaded customer service line. It took about 20 minutes, but they refunded the difference and apologized for the inconvenience. I felt stupid for waiting because it was a bunch of cables and stuff I would not have purchased if it was not so cheap.

Yes, they should be able to take care of you at the Service Counter with only your receipt. I've done this both with an overcharge and when I found a lower price in a competitor's ad with no problem.
Of course, your mileage may vary, but it helps to be polite.

yes, please be polite. All the customer service people do is put up with @$$H01E customers all day, being nice CANT hurt. Second, please realize best buy stocks like 100,000 (ok not that much) different products, and most people wouldn't even know that Moulin Rouge is a musical, it doesn't really seem like one. It doesn't hurt that it belongs in the music section and the sticker on the front cleary says so, but still, they sell alot of products. It amazes me when customers come up to me working in the tv department asking me about desperado superbit movies. YES I know more than any of the FNGs (F****** new guys) in media but they are there to help out in movies while i sell tvs. Anywho, thats the end of my rant.

Goldberg74,

I also live in SA and I noticed an error/overcharge on my receipt this week from BB. I bought 4 of the Disney movies that were advertised as buy 2 and get $6 off. When I checked the receipt it only had $3 taken off of the first Disney dvds & the other 2 were charged at the regular advertised price without the discount. So I call BB that I bought it from and told the guy the titles. He told me just to bring in the receipt and that he would do a paper return & rering the dvds up with the discount. I didn't even need to bring the dvds but left them in my car just to be sure.

I did this on Friday with no problems. You could:
A) bring in the receipt & the pricetag if it is not too mangled & see what happens.
B) if the pricetag is too mangled see if you can find another copy of the dvd with that pricetag pricetag & bring that plus your receipt to CS.
C) call BB and ask.

I prefer option C but whichever you decide to do I agree with everyone else about being polite.

BTW, I went to the BB in the Forum.

I went to the one at 410 and San Pedro (NorthStar I think)... but I've been to the one at the Forum and that is a very nice looking store, too bad I live by the airport.

I'm gonna call them today... I'll see what happenes.

UPDATE: Got my $3.24 back... just had to wait a bit... but its the principle that counts!

My son bought SIMS at Best Buy the day after christmas for 49.99. On Sunday (5 days later), SIMS went on sale for 34.99. He'd already cut up the box (he only keeps the front and the part with the UPC bar. We took that it, along with the receipt, and they adjusted the price with no problem. Took me all of 10 minutes since I did it at the cash register, not customer service.
