Has Amazon fixed the overcharging problems?

I was curious if Amazon fixed the problems with their site removing discounts from orders. I haven't seen any new posts related to this problem in a few weeks. My last order over two weeks ago had a coupon removed and Amazon eventually gave me credit for the overcharge. I should have five orders shipped next week and wonder if I am going to be making a lot of calls to cutomer service for credit.

some problems that I have been experiencing lately w/ Amazon (long post)

I can easily answer that. Amazon is still having problems with overcharging. MY AF:Bootleg & B5 dvds shipped today and I was overcharged almost $10.00. Both STL & promo disappeared from that order. Called & requested the refund.

I haven't posted anything new because I didn't want to start a complaint fest. But I am having a few problems with my some of orders that go beyond overcharging. I am actually still waiting on my X-Files Season 4 boxset which for some reason won't ship. An order specialist is working on it & has been working on the technical problem for a while & even tried canceling and reordering it but it still won't ship. But due to the delay I was given a promo GC to use on my next order. And a 3rd problem happened last night. I ordered a few items & after I placed the order I realized that an item was missing so instead of just trying to add the additional item (this according to Amazon can cause you to loose your coupons and be overcharged) I wanted to cancel the whole order & just reorder it. Sounds easy enough but what a big mistake. The site would not let me cancel an order that I had just placed a couples of minutes before. Called CS and asked to cancel the order & he said he did then I asked about the overcharge which he said would be refunded. So I check my order history a few minutes later and the order is still there. Called up Amazon again & spoke to an OS. She wasn't able to cancel while she was on the phone but said that she would work on it & email me about it tonight. Well, as of right now I haven't gotten an email yet.

So the problems that I have experienced & are currently experiencing in with Amazon are:
1)overcharging--the last overcharge occurred 12/4
2)an order not shipping--release date 11/13
3)inability to cancel an order--by me on the site or by an order specialist

Some of you are probably wondering why I still shop there with all these problems. Well, it may not make sense to you but up until recently I have had good experiences with Amazon & while I am having a few problems with Amazon that seem to be taking longer to solve I believe in giving both people & companies the time & chance to solve problems. And besides I have not have problems with all of my orders. Some recent orders have shipped out without any problems. I am not someone who has to have their dvd the day of release or before and as long as the delayed items aren't holiday presents I can wait. Amazon's CS and OS have been very polite & apologetic to me when we have talked which I appreciate and I have been polite and courteous to them & I am sure that they appreciate that.

I just hope that whatever the bugs are in their systems, they can be fixed soon. Amazon is one of several stores both online & B&M that I shop at and I'd like to continue shopping there but if the problems persists I may stop shopping there until they can fix the bugs. (A person can only be patient for so long before they give up.

And I can't believe I wrote this much. It may sound a bit preachy but I thought that I share my experiences since that was part of the orginal question & share my thought regarding the experience. Anyway, I hope that some will find this info helpful & informative. And I will keep you informed of the progress if anyone is interested.

I finally got a email stating that $5 would be credit to my card to make up for the certificate that wasn't applied to my order.

I checked my card and it was applied.

I am glad you decided to post additional information. I think it is important to keep this topic alive as long as the problems persist. And I would hope someone who works at Amazon might spot this thread and address these issues.

I can't believe these problems have been happening for months and Amazon has failed to even acknowledge it to their customers. I would think they would have sent an e-mail explaining or making customers aware of them, and they were attempting to fix them.

And It looks like my upcoming shipments within the next week are probably all going to have overcharge problems as well. I have one order that just went into the shipping soon phase that has STL discounts and a coupon missing from the order. No changes were made to the order since it was placed back in August. And all my following orders have either STL discounts, coupons, GCs, and free shipping applied.

I think Amazon needs to get its act together soon or they will not be getting any future purchases from me.

I can vouch for having shipping delays. AF Bootleg still hasn't shipped from an August order date. Empire of the Sun took over a week to ship (and I had to call them four times). Et cetera.

However, I have had no overcharging problems to date.

Throughout October and November I had around 6 Amazon orders, and for every single one I was overcharged between $10-$25. They were all missing the STL and coupon discounts. However, in the past 2-3 days I've had 3 orders ship, and every one was charged the correct amount with all the discounts intact. I'm not entirely ready to call the glitch "fixed", and I'll still keeping a sharp eye on each order, but things are starting to look much better.

I was curious if your orders without problems were recently placed? Maybe Amazon's glitches are only on orders placed during a certain time frame.

They actually undercharged me on my last two orders (one by -1.22 and the other by -0.11). All orders paid via promo GC+STL+regular GC placed in Sept. My shipping soon total initally charged me an extra $2 but that changed when it shipped. It's just funny having your original total differ from the shipping soon total that differs from the shipping total. Btw, I finally got my Shrek order from Amazon then discovered I recieved one with a broken case

The orders without problems were all placed in early-mid November. They were all pre-orders with STL and coupons. I still have another 2-3 orders outstanding. Hopefully those will be problem-free as well.

I have five orders that should be shipping within the week. All were placed between late August through September, except one that was placed in December. I have been overcharged already for the August order that is shipping soon. If the overcharge problem is date related I would expect to be overcharged on all the other orders with the exception of the December one. Has anyone been overcharged with an order placed in November through December?

No most of my overcharges came from orders placed around the end of October. I only placed one order in November but that preorder isn't due to ship until January 2002.

However I have had some problems with orders that I placed in December. Not overcharges but being unable to cancel orders via the website and having to have an OS cancel it for me. And for some reason it takes the OS several hours to do the cancelation.

I placed an order on either 12/3 or 12/4 & tried to cancel via the website but kept getting an error message so I called Amazon & CS couldn't cancel it but an OS was able to cancel it within 8 hours or so. But the GCs (nonpromo) that I used are still not listed in my account. I called again and an OS told me that it may take a couple of business days before it shows up in my account. (I thought that was strange because when I have canceled orders before with nonpromo GCs & the GCs were back in my account right after I canceled. So I'll check my account tomorrow & if the GCs are not in my account then I'll call & see what to do next.

And just an aside, the X Files Season 4 Box set that I ordered still has not shipped. I now see a 3 order in my account by an OS on 12/4 & it still hasn't shipped yet.

Well Amazon just screwed up two orders that are sitting idle and should be shipping soon. When I checked them earlier today all my STL discounts, coupons, and free shipping on only one of the orders were all gone. Looks like they have me for about $50 in overcharges for three orders before they ship.

This was also different from my other overcharge problems since they would go into the shipping soon phase before all my discounts vanished. The usual pattern was the order would say "shipping soon", and would have the correct total on the bottom with all the discounts properly listed. And above it would have the charges to my credit card without the discounts. This time it's just an open order with everything missing.

I also have another order that has been stuck in the "shipping soon" phase for three days now. I figure the next problem I will have are orders that don't ship. That has been one of the few glitches I have escaped.

I think I am done with Amazon once all my open orders ship. I have been saving money but this is just not worth the aggravation.

Sorry to see that you are having problems with Amazon too. I have gotten overcharges as well but don't want to add them all up. Because seeing the total overcharges will probably raise my blood pressure a few points. So I will just deal with it on a case by case basis. But that is just me and how I am handling the situation right now.

You mentioned the shipping soon status has been listed for your order for several days. I have had that problem too. The turn around for shipping soon used to be the next day for me but it seems to be taking 2-3 days now. But I thought that you would be interested to know that on 2 orders which are still listed as shipping soon as of 12/08 have already arrived at my house. The last one arrived either Monday or Tuesday. So the shipping soon listing does not seem to be very accurate.

And as far as the overcharging problems. I agree with you that the savings seem to be more aggravating & fustrating then it is worth. I have already canceled orders that I knew were going to be a problem because the discounts had disappeared & the items have not even been charged to my card or shipped.

And I have noticed that even if changes were not made to the order there is still the potential of overcharging. It has happened on a couple of my orders.

I am trying a new approach with my Amazon orders that may eliminate the overcharging problem that has been going on for the last few months. I placed 3 orders during the last few days of the free shipping. I used promo discounts(STL & promo GC) & nonpromo GCs when placing these orders so that my credit card would not be used at all so in theory the overcharges can't occur since my CC has not been authorized for these orders. The orders haven't shipped yet. Some are listed as shipping soon and one isn't ready to ship because the availability for the items are 1-2 weeks. But I will let you know how this new idea works out.

And the latest update about a couple of recent problems with orders. I got an email that the X-Files Season 4 boxset has been corrected and is shipping soon. And my call to Amazon regarding the missing GCs from an order I had canceled was fixed and the GCs are now in my account.

I'll post again to let you know what happens with the orders that I placed using only GCs and no CC. And I hope that some of this information is helpful & useful especiallly about the "shipping soon" status not being very accurate.

My shipping soon order was finally shipped today but I now need to have Amazon credit me for the overcharge.

My two other orders they messed up should have zero charges to my credit card when they ship. I had STL discounts, coupons, free shipping discount on one order, and the remainder were paid with nonpromo GCs. But all the discounts were removed for no apparent reason. They are not listed as shipping soon even though all items are in stock. I was also wondering if this a symptom of an order that doesn't ship? I hope not since two of the items are the limited editions of Walt Disney Treasures DVDs.

Well glad to hear at least they fixed some of your problems. I think the only reason I keep ordering from them is because at least they try and usually fix the problems. And usually they don't hassle you about it. But the continuation of the glitches is just becoming too fatiguing for me.

I have had a few orders overcharged. I was able to get three of them corrected. the last one they refused to correct for a 9 dollar overcharge, I am going to dispute it anyway and i paid amazon back by convincing a few people I know to not shop at Amazon due to their problem. I intend to cease ordering from them after my last order ships. I will be deleting my account and waiting for them to go under

I placed close to 90 orders with them and now I feel like I can not trust them with my money. It is simply not worth my time anymore to check every order for a mistake . the funny thing is that I used coupons when available but never ended up using STL for a discount. I ended up letting my one STL credit expire rather than spend money at amazon.

Well so far so good. Some the orders that I placed with GCs, discounts and promo GCs are shipping & so far there haven't been any overcharge problems.

I received an order for 4 dvds yesterday via US mail (preorders that were released yesterday). And I received a partial order today via UPS containing software & a dvd boxset. And so far no overcharges.

Now I still haven't received my X Files season 4 boxset yet. And a couple of other dvs that were released yesterday haven't shipped yet either. And in case anyone is wondering which titles they are The Mist Of Avalon, Bram Stoker's Dracula Superbits & another title that I can't remember at the moment.

I'll post again when more orders are shipped & arrive.

Well, an update for me...this week marked the second straight time Amazon has shipped my DVD a week after street date for a preorder. Both times, I called at least twice before they got it out, and they needed to slap UPS on it. The two orders before them were also delayed by at least two days. Also, all my pricing information for the most recent order was messed up, returned to normal, messed up again, and now, after it's shipped, all prices and totals are $0.00. They really are going to need to shape up if they want me to continue shopping there. And I know I wouldn't bother if I didn't have the awesome NextCard.

I can tell you that I've had several orders overcharged that had a $0.00 balance after GCs and STL were applied. The balance DOES go to your credit card.

For one of them, I wrote Amazon a nasty note, and they apologized and reversed the charge. On another, they sent me a $10 promo GC...

I have had problems with five orders within the past week, which has taken numerous calls to try and resolve them. And it will probably take many more before I am through. I will briefly go over my current situation with my Amazon orders.

My first order shipped and arrived without any problems, but my credit card was overcharged. Had to call a CSR to get credited for the overcharge but I am still waiting for the refund. Update:received refund for overcharge.

My second order had all the discounts removed and never shipped for a week after the titles were released. Had to call a CSR again but she decided to let an order specialist handle it. Within a few hours my order shipped, received free shipping with upgraded 2nd day delivery, and at least was not overcharged.

Another order is shipping soon even though one of the items is being delayed for a week. Looks like all the charges are correct for this one. A week delay for an item is a minor problem at least.

My two remaining orders should be shipping but they are not. Had to call a CSR again to try and get them to ship. She said everything looked fine even though one order has the wrong price and they have not shipped. She told me to call back tomorrow if they still haven't entered the shipping process. I guess I will have to wait and see about overcharges on these remaining two.

I will be happy if I receive my orders before Christmas and resolve any billing issues. Then I won't have to worry until mid January unrtil my next shipments are due. Hopefully this month will be the last of the problems at Amazon.

Well, here is another small update on the overcharging.

I am being overcharged on another order that just went into the shipping soon phase. I used GCs, stl, promo GC (that was gift from Amazon for the big delay on X Files Season 4 boxset) & credit card. My order total after using all of GCs (promo & nonpromo) is/was $7.13. It even that on my invoice but a bit lower it says total charged to CC is/was $12.09. And I didn't make any changes to this order but Amazon did. They canceled an item because they said it was no longer available and if I used a discount that had a minimum requirement & if canceling that item puts my order below the minimum that I would loose my discount. Fortunately that wasn't the case for me but I don't like the idea that Amazon wants to penalize a customer (by loosing the discount) because Amazon could get anymore of the product. It was listed as usually available in 24 hours. That just doesn't seem right to me.

So I guess I'll be calling again about this and to inquire about my X Files boxset that I just remembered was supposed to ship next day but still hasn't arrived.

And my GC total keeps changing daily when I haven't ordered anything from Amazon since Sunday. I'll have to call about that too. But I have to go back and do all the math to see if I can figure out how much of my GCs are missing.

I'll post again when I get more information.

After 4 phone calls this week these two orders still have not shipped, and the problem is getting worse. Below is an e-mail I received from an order specialist I talked with last night.

Greetings from Amazon.com.

After talking to you on the phone I did further research on both orders
we
spoke about together. It appears to me that these orders do not have
sufficient funds to cover the cost. The gift certificate funds on your
account have been assigned to other orders you have placed.

Before we can continue processing this order, you will need to provide
us
with another method of payment to cover the remaining amount.

If you have any further questions please visit our Help pages at:
http://www.amazon.com/help.

I was told on several occasions there was nothing wrong with these orders and expect them to ship soon. Now there isn't sufficient funds to pay them. They say this despite the fact that I have a credit card and GC balance in my account that would cover any additional charges.

One of the orders was paid for completely with promotional discounts and GCS. However all promotional discounts were removed from the order. But I was assured several times that all the discounts were going to be applied to the order even though my order summary said otherwise.

The other order had about a $14 balance due. But for some reason I can't pay the remaining amount off with GCs. I thought no problem the remaining balance can be charged to my credit card. And I was told several times this order was fine.

The order specialist I talked with today didn't seem to have a clue what was wrong with the orders, or offer any solutions to the problem. She thought the problem was because of all the promotional discounts used on the orders. I mentioned that I have had many other orders ship with mutiple discounts like STL, coupons, and free shipping applied. She said they needed to do further research and should call them again this evening.

Still waiting to see if my delayed orders get shipped. This is the latest e-mail they sent me about the situation.

Thank you for writing to us at Amazon.com. First, I would like to
apologize for the delay in shipping your order.

In looking into the situation, I see that the shipment of your order
has been delayed. This situation was the result of a human error.
Please
understand that in no way did we intend for this to happen.

This package should be leaving our fulfillment center soon;
unfortunately,
I cannot guarantee the exact time. Once it has been shipped, we will
send you an e-mail message confirming the date, contents, and method
of your shipment.

I hope you'll understand that we do our best to ensure that all of our
customer orders leave our distribution centers as close as possible to
the availability and shipping estimates that are listed on our
web site.

In addition to our large selection, one of the benefits we'd like to
offer our customers is convenience, and I realize that we have not met
that standard in this case. I hope that you will give us another
opportunity to prove the quality of our service to you in the future.

Thanks for shopping at Amazon.com.

Best wishes for the holidays,
