Amazon and Borders ripped me off??

Okay here's the deal.

I used a $50 gift card I got at Borders that says valid online (i exchanged the screwed up buick test drive cert. for it--for those of you who did that deal)... and when I applied it during checkout it didn't tell me the amount on the card (as it does when you apply amazon credit) but it said that it would apply the full amount of the card once the order shipped.

Well the order shipped and I got charged the full $65.

I called Amazon and the first lady transferred me to an order specialist. (what the heck is the first lady's job??). Amazon didn't know what to do becuase "it's Borders' gift card and therefore borders' fault that amazon.com didn't apply it." Amazon said they'd get back to me through e-mail.

I got this e-mail today:

**********************************************

Dear "QuAcKeR",

Thank you for contacting us at Amazon.com.

Per our telephone conversation last night, I have researched your order
further. Unfortunately, as there is no indication that your Borders Gift
Card was ever applied to your order, I am unable to refund the amount of
your Gift Card.

Please rest assured that your Gift Card is still valid and the funds on it
are still available for a future purchase. If you should decide to place
your future order with the Gift Card with us, you may wish to contact us
after you place the order so we can check it and be sure that it was
applied to the order.

I am sorry for any inconvenience this has caused you and that I could not
assist you more. Please don't hesitate to write back should you have any
further questions, and thanks for shopping at Amazon.com.

**********************************************

So I called the Borders.com number and she said SHE can't do anything either, that it's Amazon's problem.

All I want is a $50 credit to my card (I can't afford to BUY the stuff!)... is my only option to demand that they pay for me to return the stuff then I re-order and make sure the gc worked before they can ship it?

I think your only choice is to return the stuff, and re-order it using the giftcard. You'll have to bitch at amazon to see if they will send you a shipping label for the return (at their expense). Don't settle with an Amazon GC that they may give you for the trouble as it is not combinable with the Borders giftcard, unless you have amazon purchase to make later.
