Deep Discount DVD - slightly sneaky
DDD always advertises that you don't have to pay for S&H. Well, that's because they put the cost of it into their prices per disk.
Do a search for any given new film and you'll see that to be true. Their cost per disk tends to be a few bucks higher than most stores. So, when you add everything up, you're only saving about 70 cents. (Obviously that's better than nothing.)
Compare their Episode 1 prices with most other on line stores....you'll see.

It really varies - so any general statement is impossible. Most of the $14.95 titles, for example, are under $10.00, which is the same at other etailers that DO add shipping to their price. The bottom line is simply this - no one etailer has the lowest total price for ALL titles.

Speaking of sneaky, you notice their packaging (for Free Shipping) is horrible? I mean, the packages I received were in ugly old cardboard boxes and looked like they were opened and taped up again. Makes me imagine they were shipped along with a shipment of bananas to the supermarket, and some kid opened them out of curiousity. (Dvds were fine inside, but it makes one wonder)
Anyone else get these crusty packages?

Shrek
Phantom Menace
Swordfish
Mummy Returns
Godfather Collection
DDD total price shipped: $150.90
Amazon total price shipped: $165.26
A savings of about $3 per title.
DDD still offers cheaper DVD's with free shipping, I don't see what you are complaining about.

Just about any A&E title is over 50% off at DDD. And, according to DVD price search, DDD currently has the lowest price on almost 1100 titles. Sounds fine to me.

I don't order much on-line anymore, as the hot new titles are typically the best deal at Best Buy on the first week of release. However, smaller titles, or re-releases like Princess Bride I have found to be slightly cheaper at DDD when you factor in shipping & sales tax. I also just really like the concept of "what you see is what you pay". No sales tax, no shipping charges.
Of course, I have to keep asking myself, "Is it worth saving a buck to take the chance that the order will get lost/screwed up?" But I decide to keep buying from DDD to support their business model.
Also, I've never had any problem with them shipping boxes. Maybe it's just luck, but all my boxes have been very adequate.

It just so happens that I am in Illinois, home state of DDD, which means I hafta pay sales tax. It's a bummer, because often, after you add 8-9% for tax, it's cheaper for me to go elsewhere.
Plus, it seems every time I order something at DDD it gets delayed by the distributor (Pearl Jam Touring Band 2000, Paradise Lost 2, etc). I know it isn't their fault, though, and their CS seems great to me, I just think it's kind of a funny coincidence.

My thumbs are surely up when it comes to D3 as everytime I've used them I've had a positive experience. I am growing quite fond of that shark and I suppose it could be said that D3 offers "Great White Deals" get it. Great white, shark. Wow. Anyways I got my Godfather on time that makes me a happy camper.

Okay, pick "any given new film" and I'll see?
Below are the first 3 recent releases that popped into my mind. I ran them through DVDPriceCompare.com and guess what, DDDVD was the cheapest for all of them, and that's not even taking the FREE SHIPPING into account.
Princess Bride SE
DDDvd - 21.44
Amazon - 22.48
Sam Goody - 25.49
Video Universe - 23.98
Memento
DDDvd - 16.84
Amazon - 18.71
Sam Goody - 18.74
Video Universe - 19.96
Godfather Collection
DDDvd - 69.95
Amazon - 74.95
Sam Goody - 74.99
Video Universe - 74.19
Deep Discount DVD has some really GREAT prices on some DVDs and is definitely not "sneaky"

I also disagree. You just have to watch for who has the lowest price - including shipping. I got Heathers:SE for $11.99 with free shipping which was by far cheaper than any other e-tailer before shipping. (Actually Best Buy had it for the same price plus tax but who knew that was going to happen?

Count me in on the plus side of Deep Discount. Their prices are usually the lowest, but not ALWAYS!
Many buyers expect one e-tailer to have the best price on everything, but that's just not the case. If DDD would have the best price on everything, there would be no need for price search engines!
I buy mostly "iffy" titles such as next week's FUNNY GIRL that might be hard to find at most stores at DDD. For mass-market titles such as PHANTOM MENACE or SNOW WHITE, I take my chances and buy locally.
For those customers who are skeptical of DDD, be aware that besides delivering on time, they also have a toll-free customer service number to solve problems you may have with orders. How many other vendors will let you talk to a CSR on a phone line!

I have placed four different orders with DDD and have never had any problems.
Even though I pay sales tax when I buy from DDD (I live in Illinois, and the tax is 6.7%, not 8 or 9%), their prices are cheaper than other stores.
As for the packaging, yes, the orders come in the cardboard boxes, but I don't think that they are flimsy or anything. They may not look as nice as boxes from other stores (I alway's liked buy.com's boxes), but DDD's boxes protected the DVDs well.

I think that their price with free shipping is guranteed to be lower than any other place with shipping.
I am not sure what the regulations are.....I think it probably means any other US site and using one disc orders for shipping prices considerations....etc....
but I have read on dvdtalk that some people have pointed out to DDD cases where someone else was cheaper, and DDD lowered the price on their website........

Well Deep Discount did pull a sneaky one on me today. I ordered Memento from their site the other day for $16.84, even got e-mail confirmation of the price. Today I receive an e-mail it shipped and the price charged has been increased to $19.14 on my order. Hope they are not turning into another Amazon in changing order prices.

I finally got Deep Discount to take care of the over charged price. They are going to refund the higher price to my credit card and charge it again at the lower price. But it seems of late it's getting to be common practice with internet stores to charge you more than you authorized to pay for an item.
