Why should they be in a hurry to cancel orders. They have three months to decide. This way they can leave those who ordered turning slowly in the wind, but not scare away potential orders by generating negative postings now.

Not sure what this means. But Mad Max for .75 is the only thing I have ordered from them that I can remember for a long time. I think I went through the link Dvdpricesearch had. Be pretty crappy of Dvdexpress if they dont honor it:

It's a web marketing trick!!!

Send a basically pointless email to your customer list, just reminding them that your website exists. It will no doubt increase your web traffic, even if only temporarily.

How many people visited their website (www.dvdexpress.com) after they got this email?

I didn't get the email posted above, however, my order for this item is still listed as "backorder".

A few people here have commented on the similar DVD Express "deal" on Urbania a few weeks ago. Check out the following thread to see the outcome:

http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hlight=urbania

Urbania is much less well-known than Mad Max, so I'm sure the latter has been ordered by a lot more people (at least if the responses to this thread versus the Urbania one are any indication). I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for those DVDs.

Having ordered Urbania myself, I wasn't at all angered that my order was cancelled; whether the situation was one of a misprice (most likely) or simply an overstock or loss-leader promotion where demand exceeded supply, it's perfectly understandable that DVD Express might not be able to fulfill the orders. What did irritate me was the company's failure to even send an e-mail explaining the cancellation. That (lack of) response, it seems to me, is not indicative of a company that has much regard for its customers.

Just my two cents. YMMV.

My lame response from them in regards to why it took three weeks to catch their error:

Dear DVD Express Customer,

Thank you for your reply.

I have no retort for the three week wait; any fault therein would fall in ordering processing, operations, and/or marketing. We are sorry you are unhappy with its
resolution or how it was achieved.

As for order # 03012710 and Mad Max: SE listed at an incorrect price, please let us know if you would rather have this order cancelled or the price corrected ($14.96
(25% off) each).

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and thank you for your patience. I look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Hanson

My bid through XXXXXBOX was accepted at $1.48 shipped - after constantly resubmitting the bid. Looks like this deal went through for me!!!

The "XXXXX" would stand for "ORDER". Check out previous posts for more info.

Congrats!! Just about everybody else's OB bids disappeared due to being less than $1 (before shipping). According to OB CS, their system automatically deletes orders below $1. Wonder why yours went through? Oh well, guess that's par for the course for OB. They are so screwed up, it seems nothing is standard and anything is possible.

Your next challenge will be getting them to ship it to you by the END of 2002 ...

I did, just to check my order for $.75, not to order more

Bait & Switch ?

Ok,

Looking over the DVD Express site they have titles at 40%, 50% and 60%, so a title at 80% makes sense given this pattern. Now you order the title at 80% and what is the result, oops, sorry our mistake, we meant 25%, here let me give you a coupon for 10%....

We offer an 80% discount, when we don't like the response, we try to palm you off with a 35% discount

Doesn't this sound like Bait & Switch.

I think it's because I ordered it alone and thus an 89 cent shipping charge was tacked directly on the price- making it over a dollar.

I just got one:

Dear DVD Express Customer,

We are contacting you regarding a recent order you placed containing the item "Mad Max: Special Edition".

Unfortunately, at the time you first ordered this product, the weekend of September 29, 2001, the price for this product was incorrectly listed at $0.75. This was a mistake and the price was corrected to $14.96 on the site once we discovered our error. Our site policy states that if a product has been listed at an incorrect price, we reserve the right to refuse or cancel your order for that product even if your order has been confirmed.

As a result of our error, we are forced to remove this title from your order. If this is the only item on your order, then your order will be cancelled. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience.

If you would still like to order the Mad Max movie at the regular price of $14.96, you may add this to your open order or create another order at any time.

For further information regarding this policy please go to the link below.

http://www.dvdexpress.com/custservic...olicies2.asp#5

We apologize for this error and appreciate your understanding.

Sincerely,

Customer Relations
