Beware, Half.com screws sellers

I sold a MINT FACTORY SEALED OOP DVD (Willy Wonka) on Half two months ago for $60. Today I get an e-mail from Half customer service, that they are sending the DVD back to me and billing me for the monies that were already sent to me. The buyer claimed that there were smudges all over the disc and it wouldn't play right.

I'm thinking that she probably heard about the re-release of WW after she bought it and was damn sorry she shelled out $60 for the DVD. She tears off the factory seal, probably plays frisbee with it, then complains it is defective, and cries "Buyer Protection" I want my money back.

In return, I get an opened, abused, worthless POS, and have to pay the money back which I've already spent.

Where is the "Seller Protection"? What is there to prevent someone from buying a factory sealed DVD, opening it, watching it a few times, then scratch it up a little , complain to Half and presto...instant refund.

Has this ever happened to anyone?
What recourse do I have?...any ideas..I am mad as #%^#%^#

did you get the money already- then unless they get a credit card from you or you send them money- say screw you and refuse to refund the money.

you will not be able to use half.com any more but then who cares.
60 days is too long to complain about any product.

refuse to pay them. what recourse do they have.

good luck.

After reading some post from the DVD forum, Id keep that OOP WW, too bad that buyer had to mess with it.

Im pretty sure that the buyer reads these forums, so to be a total ass hole, just like the buyer, warn others about him/her with posting their screen name or something.

Well, I just checked, and Half already charged my credit card which was on file. I'll just have to wait and see what shape my Wonka is when I get it back. If it plays after wiping "twinky's" fingerprints off of it, I guess it won't be a total loss considering what I just read about the "New" butchered re-release that will be coming out.

Seller BEWARE!!

Thanks for the replies, I feel better after letting off some steam.

I agree dispute the charges. say they charged your account without you agreeing to it. you may lose but at least it will cost half.com time to fight you.

Be glad your getting it back, it'll soar in value as it is not going to be in OAR when the SE comes out.

I wrote to Half CS about how angry I was and they replied back to me that they (Half) have the right to decide and they decided to return my DVD..I have no recourse..end of story.

I got the disc back today and it plays flawlessly on my player.
(The buyer claimed it was defective because of some discoloration on the disc and it would not play). Hell, a lot of my DVDs have some discoloration on them, it doesn't mean they are defective. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I don't think I can dispute the charge, as Half still owes me over $100 on recent sales and they would just take the money out of that.

As angry as I am about this whole thing, I don't know if it would be right to post someone's name and address on the forum. I already did however in one of my replies to this post give "part" of her username.

Thank's to all who replied, I guess I'll hang on to this version now with all the talk of the re-release being cropped and chopped.

Let me guess this straight. Half.com deals with returns then notifies the seller that they must take a return back. The buyer didn't even email you first. Man is that so suck.

Anyways had somewhat a similiar situation a year ago in EBAY sold a brand new Fargo sealed. The buyer tells me its defective via email. I ask are there any scratches on the disk. He stated that the disk didn't have any. I was surprised for that was a new sealed copy blah blah but I'll be happy to exchange for my own personal copy. Send it back and if everything is as you state I'll gladly exchange it. Well this seller sent me back the DVD with more scratches in it than a rap record. I notified the buyer that he misled me that I have all of his emails. That he stated that it had no scratches. It was clear in my mind that he was exchanging his beat up dvd for a brand new one. I shipped it back. He filed a fraud claim and I filed a fraud claim against him.

Sounds like your seller had buyers remorse. If it was a used DVD I'd of taken it back. Discoloration on a disk is a crappy way of backing out of a sale.

The buyer on half doesn't get the seller's e-mail address, so they can't contact the seller directly. You always have to go through half.com.

Call your credit card company right away and dispute those charges. You sold a factory sealed DVD, any problems with discolerations should be taken up with the manufacturer, not you.

Who was the buyer? (name)

Not getting a buyer's/seller's email address IMHO is bad business

Sorry if this is intrusive, but what happened in the end? I am considering using eBay to sell off my older titles when they are re-released, but might not if the scales are unfairly tipped in the buyer's favor.

Thanks!
