ubid - Opinions

I'm giving ubid a try for some of their auctions. Any opinions? I'm generally sticking with the ubid direct auctions...

Haven't had any problems, though the shipping charges are outrageous. You should remember to factor that in when bidding.

Besides shipping it is really nice. Be very wary on refurb stuff, although some come out brand new practically - but I've heard horror stories from friends.

Ditto to what everyone is saying... you can get some great deals, but just make sure to factor in the outrageous shipping charges into your bids. I've had no problems with about 4-5 orders.

I actually haven't purchased anything there in a while, but I felt the need to respond, since I got my first DVD player from them. Memories...

yep what everybody else said... I've bought a hard drive, and external SCSI CD burner, and a digital camera from them. (2 cameras, actually, my dad wanted one after he saw mine.) In all cases I was looking to be cheap by not getting the latest technology. ubid is great for that, tho the shipping was jacked up.. for that camera package, the shipping was $9.99 plus $0.99 per pound. If you're like me and you like to save money by buying a couple years behind the technology curve, it's great. But I'm not sure you really save anything if you are going after the latest and greatest equipment.

I ordered a pair of Aiwa Headphones, HP-X222 from ubid, and they send a totally different type of headphone from Aiwa, that was lesser quality and alot cheaper HP-X225 and I am still going through the hassle of returning them.

Their customer service is absolutely horrible. I bought over $2000 of stuff from them over a period of 3 days. One of my orders was for 4 of the same item, but they sent me 3 and another item that was in a box that was the same size as the other 3. I emailed them and about a week later said they would send me a replacement. I got the replacement, but in order to fit it in the box that they sent it in, they stepped on the item's box so it would fit in the shippnig box.

Good place if you can stand their horrible CS.
